Medieval 2 does not launch

Hey guys!

So I am one of the unfortunate people who owns the vanilla version of the game on oldschool DVD. I reinstalled the game recently after not playing it for quite a while, but it will not launch. If I doubleclick on the .exe I can briefly see the process turn up in the task manager, but then vanish immediately. No error or anything is displayed, no log generated in the Medieval folder. If I try to start it from the launcher, it terminates after the DemoShield-splash.
The funny thing is, it doesn't even ask for the DVD, and if I remember correctly, you couldn't run it without.

I tried:

- Compatibility mode Windows XP, run as admin
- UAC is disabled
- installed latest graphics drivers
- patched game to 1.2

The game did work previously on this computer, I even upgraded some hardware by now, so power isn't the problem.

The only difference between yours and mine is you have the better graphics card and 1GB cards have proven to be a pain to get started with this game.
Have you installed/updated the motherboard drivers?
www.realtek.com.tw has newer High Definition Audio codecs that may help.
Run Windows Update and install all software options may help starting with .Net 4.
One member got his going installing this.

yay for stupid problems without any apparent reasons ^^ I'll go to sleep now and try updating the mobo and audio drivers in the morning, you never know. Windows Update has just patched 30mins ago, so that shouldn't be hte problem.

Well, it took me a few days, but unfortunately nothing of the things above solved my problem

Is this the computer you had it installed on before?

yes :/ new mainboard/cpu/ram are new, but the graphics card is still the same afair. Are there some programs that are known to interfere with the game?
It's just very strange that the process shows up for a split second and disappears again.

I have a feeling you need a new install of the game so it can find everything, again.

I just reinstalled Battle for Middle-Earth and guess what: exactly the same error. I googled for 3 hours today with no result, I'm gonna reinstall my windows now, that should fix the problem. Too bad we didn't find a solution though :/
