Default Greatest Movie Endings *possible spoilers*

What do you guys think the greatest movie ending is? I'll think about it for a while, but right now I'm going to say the ending of "The Ghost and the Darkness", a movie about a guy having to go to some african village to kill a couple of lions. The final scene is when he shoots the final lion right in the face. I had a good chuckle.

But if I had to pick the actual best ending to a movie, I thought the ending of Gladiator was pretty good, it grabbed me right by the cockles of the heart and jerked on them until they ejaculated their cockliness all over my insides.

Or the ending of Garfield. Just because that movie was a steaming pile of monkey ******, and I was the happiest I have ever been in my life when it ended.

The guy didn't go the villiage to kill the lions; the guy went there to oversee construction of a bridge for a railway. The lions came in and killed a lot of workers, so they were forced to kill them. The Tsavo Maneaters, they were called. Maneless male lions, about the size of supposedly long-extinct cave lions. They killed nearly 140 workers total.
    Good movie, cool ending.

I liked the ending of gladiator except for the whole commodus-dying thing. Another awesome movie, though.

Lethal Weapon two had a cool ending. The fat South-African white guy laughs, "Diplomatic immunity", and Murtaugh just blasts him from 100 yards away with a pistol while saying, "It's just been revoked". Corny line, but good.

Any ending for an Indiana Jones movie just kicks ass, as did the ending for Episode II (bad movie, but good ending with Palpatine observing the GAR loading into ships).

Wouldn't the greatest movie ending logically have to be in the greatest movie (since people generally watch entire movies, not everything but the ending)?

No, the greatest movie might not have the greatest ending. A lesser movie may have a better ending, but simply lack in other areas. I really dont see where your comming from at all...

It sounds like, maybe, you don't know what "great" means.

    I understand perfectly.

It could be a bad movie, but the end could be abosultly stunnning. Its not a very hard concept.

The greatest movie could have a good ending, but not the best. It is still the greatest movie, becasue when all its parts are added it is better than any other movie, but if you just look at its endining it is not the best.

    Where is the confusion?

"Ghost and the Darkness" ownz me.

"Saving Private Ryan" had a great ending also (only movie that ever made me cry)

"the Rock" awesome ending in the scene where he tells the fbi guys that connery died
and then he gets ran out of the church where he finds the film showing who killed kennedy.

"The Ladykillers" (the new one with Tom Hanks) had a humorous ending with the old woman getting to keep all the money (actually she donates it)

I'm kinda partial to the ending of Scarface ... I don't think it's possible to go out in a more grandiose fashion than Al Pacino did in that movie !

"Say 'ello to meh liddle fwend!" Hear, hear! It's about time someone mentioned Scarface. Really, how can you beat that line? Although on the topic of grandiose character exits, Hudson's death in Aliens has my vote. That scene gets my blood pumping every time. "You want some?! Do you? Well ******* you! You too? Well ******* you too! And you!"

I think the greatest motion picture ending is in "Once Upon a Time in America", the complete version. The ending of that movie spawned countless debates whether Noodles was dreaming or not. I've read many debates on it and yet no one can truly say for sure whether he was or not. That's what makes the ending so good because it's to each his own to figure out what Noodles smile at the end signified. It made you want to watch the movie all over again just to catch those clues and come to a better conclusion. I've seen the movie many times and yet I can never be 100% sure. Leone was quite the story teller and its movies like these that will always be remembered.

Maybe the "Usual Suspects"... it had a very okay ending.

I saw Carlito's Way the other day, the movie with Al Pacino, it was real good, and the movie's ending wasn't bad either.

Tae Guk Gi (The Brotherhood of War) WARNING: SPOILER ALERT

After 50 years, Jin-Seok returns to the Korean War battlefield to look for his brother's remains. The recovery team leads him to the skeleton, and Jin-Seok quietly talks to it. "You said you'd find me after the war. What are you doing here? Say something. I've been waiting 50 years. I should never have left you alone back then."

That ending very nearly made me cry.

Hmm, what say you of the original Planet of the Apes? That is, if you consider the "damn you" scene to be the ending (and disregard the protagonists riding off into the horizon...or down the beach )
