Dawn til Dusk World Conflict: Total War Mod
I am launching this mod, and hopefully, with persistence and progress I hope to release it. This mod focuses on the period of 1860s, to 1945. Basically this is the period of Italian reunification, development of the German federation, resurrections in Europe, Polish Struggle for Independence, American Civil War, Franco-Prussian War, Russian Turkish War, rise of communism, heavy industrialization, WWI, interwar period and WWII to name only the few that shaped the picture of that time period. This is basically the dawn of the modern period. Because this mod is in its development stage for now, we might not get in so far as to WWII based on the stage of mod development, RTW ability for fight as WWII, and general modding work. I mainly work with maps, animation, a little modeling and texture as well as I program, and hopefully I will put these skills to the test! Of course if you have some skill please join in, this project is impossible for one man.
So because I am very limited right now I would like to open up this topic to get some interest as well as some assistance. I want this to be a discussion about history of the time period, political maps and regions, debate on what factions should be included, unit types, as well as how things are going to work.
I have already included the biggest map available for rome which is the Mundus Magnus map. I already have the regions of United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. I would like to ask you community to help me (preferably with political/administrative maps) with resources on the regions which is historically accurate. Additionally I want to compile a list of possible factions.
But some of you may ask, "It is impossible to make WWII in Total War" or "WWII and Rome Total War don't match." First of all don't expect high expectations for each specific detail. This mod wants to expand on the development of tactics and weapons, through a complex set of building ladders (aka industrialization, technology, social reform). More modern units will be available with more complex buildings and city types, as well as the reform event when properly modded. Another point, There won't be planes once you get into WWI, because for a small team like mine and at this stage its nearly impossible to do something entire teams of moders could not do until this point. Therefore all battles will be only infantry based. In addition to this, because of the more modern style of battles, I wish to resize the battle map to be smaller, and make each unit smaller in size as the player advances through time (wwii unit will be much smaller than french unit of franco-prussian war). Also dont expect too much fancy stuff like soldiers digging trenches or crawling though barbed wire. As I said with the planes. Remember this mod does not focus on the world wars specifically. There could be situations in the mod where a rich faction could have wwii units fighting a poor country which still has wwi units.
In addition to this I wish to add a system where you conquer a region, you get to recruit auxiliary troops from that region. For example, Russia, Austria, and Prussia having taken regions of the Polish Lithuanian Commonwealth could train specific units from the regions like Polish legions, or ulhans.
At this stage, I am laying the groundwork, hope to finish the campaign map soon, and start editing factions.
I know my post was not so long as what a mod post should be, but I didn`t want to write to much of a historical introduction to this time period as I was hoping all of you must have an idea of this period. Secondly, because I treat this topic mostly as a preview and asking for assistence in the research, so this mod could start rolling!
Hope you guys will be watching this mod, and I really hope someone would like to contribute to this mod`s discussion!
