    Default PSU question

    Hey guys,

A friend of mine said I could borrow his GTX460 since he's not using it at the moment so I looked at my components and was wondering if I have to upgrade the PSU, W460.
    Desktop I'm currently using: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport...odTypeId=12454

Pretty sure it wouldn't be able to handle the GTX460 and it doesn't have two 6 pin connectors.

Is there any possibility of me not upgrading the PSU, because I don't really want to spend money on a new PSU, because I'm currently saving up for a new rig. The GPU would be a great replacement for awhile, so if I had to replace it any advice on a good not too expensive PSU.
I live in Belgium, and preferably around the 50 euros.

    Who?

That's a very good video card and you could try it but a GTX460 pull close to 180 watts at full load and I doubt the PSU that HP supplies has the required 2x 6-pin connections for the video card, you could make up the difference with molex (use 2x 4pin molex connections to a 6-pin connection) but that's a risk I wouldn't want to take as those cheap n' chearfull PSU's tend to blowup if there pushed to even half of there rated wattage.

If I were you I would spend a bit extra and get a Corsair Builder Series CX 500W (I assume they ship the Belgium), you will still have to use the molex connections but the componants in this PSU will be able to handle the load a lot better then the nasty thing HP uses. Going forwards you can reuse this in any future self build you do as you really want to get away from that prebuilt rubbish.

Thanks for the reply, +rep, well from now on I won't be buying anything from HP.

As for the PSU I'll look into that, once again thanks.
