    Default Autosave won't switch off

I have a CTD problem at end turn with Stainless Steel, so I've tried to switch off autosave as follows:

    edit medieval2.preference.cfg in med2 main folder and change auto_save = 1 to auto_save = 0

However, I still get autosaves even in Vanilla (hence posting here), what am i doing wrong?

    (Kingdoms 1.5 Win 7)

After you did that, did you set the file to read-only? If not, odds are the game wrote you a new one.

Also, check the one Stainless Steel's folder.

Yes, set to read-only. I can't see a file with same name in the SS folder. Still getting Autosaves.
Seems very odd, everything I've searched on the forum seems to suggest that this should switch off auotsave.

    (thanks for trying to help)

??? There is no autosave statement in my SS6.3 folder default.cfg file ?
This won't effect the autosave in Vanilla anyway.

Possibly something that I have forgotten since the last time I tried it. Here is the lowdown on the file.

No, Stainless Steel's would not affect vanilla.
