Unpacker problem with Britannia campaign

Hi, Im having trouble unpacking the Britannia campaign for Medieval 2 Kingdoms.

Unpacker begins as though it will work but then closes after a few seconds.
This is not the case with the other kingdoms campaigns that unpack fine.

I have tried uninstalling the game and reinstalling it a few times with the same result each time .

My copy is a steam version of the game.
The command path for the unpacker is:
unpacker.exe --source=..\..\mods\british_isles\packs\*.pack --destination=..\..\ --verbosity=1 --base_pack_path=mods/british_isles/data/

The size of the british_isles folder remains 922MB.
My virtual store is disabled. Even so I searched there but there was no Medieval file.

Any help would really be appreciated.

What is the size of your mods\brirish_isles folder?

The size of the british_isles folder is 923 MB

Mine's 914mb but close enough. My unpacked british_isles folder is 827mb by itself plus the other folder would make about 1.7gb if in one folder.

How much free disc space do you have?

I have 1.6TB free disc space.

The british_isles is defo 923MB on mine. I take it thats normal?

The folder is "normal" as long as the unpacker did not unpack them there. You have enough disc space, too.

with all files, folders, and drives unhid, have you used the search box in computer for british_isles and see if Windows is being stupid?

Another member had the opposite happen and it was Britannia.

Just tried to search and only came up with the normal mods/british_isles folder.

My PC is set to show all hidden files and folders.

When I unpack the other campaigns e.g. Americas, Teutonic and Crusade, they all seem to unpack fine and I can view all the files in them. It is just the british_isles

I thought it would be an installation problem so I reinstalled 3 times and it was the same each time.

It's in the unpacher's .bat not working right would be my guess. UAC enabled or disabled?

yeah UAC is disabled.

Is it possible to get another unpacker.bat file anywhere?

Its strange because it is a steam downloaded game I would have thought it would be a working clean copy every time.

Try the ones at the bottom of the OP.

You can also try a different place for it to unpack to including the desktop and move it afterward.

Ok i just tried to unpack it to a new folder and that didn't work either.

I really dont understand what has gone wrong. Could it have something to do with the msvcrp71.dll file? It is in the folder but thats only because I copied it from the Medieval II folder.

If all the mcvp71.dll and the rest do need to be in the same folder with the unpacker bat files.

Yeh as far as I can tell they are all in there because the unpacker starts at least.

Any other ideas as to why this is happening?

Make a copy of the amerias unpacker so you don't ruin it, then in its bat file, replace americas with british_isles and run it.

If it works, delete the old british_isles one rename the one that works.

ok so I just made a copy, then changed the source and destination file within the americas unpacker. It did the same thing as with the british_isles unpacker. it ran for a couple of seconds and then stopped.

It looks like you have a bad Britannia pack.

My only hope would be delete the damn thing and verify the game cache.

Just tried it and no luck... same problem as before.

Disclaimer - I don't do mods.

@Malcolm - what M2 or Kingdoms mods do you have installed on your system? Are you trying to unpack a vanilla install?

@irishron - As far as I remember the only difference between the Britannia mod and the others was Stone Forts - correct? What if he's installed a mod that changes some value in the british pack that is screwing with the unpacker. Such as a variable changed that the unpacker isn't expecting and is then throwing that error?

If memory serves there are some SS mods that utilize Stone forts. Maybe a clean vanilla install is in order? Your call. Good luck!

I have installed a few in the past but the version on my computer at the moment is a clean vanilla one.

Does steam download a completely new vanilla game when you have uinstalled it or is it the same files that you have uninstalled?

I have managed to capture a print screen just as it closed and it makes me think PoleCat could be right.
