Default What is the advantage to BI's AI in RTW?

I have used RomeTW-BI.exe -mod: -nm -show_err as a launch option in steam for RTW. How do I know RTW is actually running the BI.exe and does anyone know the specific advantages or drawbacks to doing it? Not just that the BI AI is better than the RTW AI, that is a given.

I tihnk the easiest way to see if you're really running R:TW BI exe over the R:TW exe is to look in-game on the top right hand side of the options menu.

Assuming that your game is correcrtly patched if it shows 1.5 then it's R:TW and if it shows R:TW 1.6 then it's R:TW BI.

There are plenty of topics on the forum that cover the differences between using the R:TW exe to the R:TW BI one - not just the improved AI. Units can have the 'shield wall ability' and some units can swim across rivers with the R:WT BI exe.

I personally use the R:TW Alex exe where the AI is supposed to be better than the R:TW BI one but the two abilites that I listed are not avalable anymore - which is no big problem for me.

I never had trouble with it.
What kind of computer are you playing it on?

    Hi Irishron,

BTW, if I use BI.exe can I still use testuedo?

The last I heard you can.

there is no reason you can't play bi.exe. You may have to play with the graphics settings to get it right as the i7 and 2gb cards were still a developer's dream when the game was published.
Have you updated all your drivers on it including motherboard, graphics and sound and run Windows Update manually installing all software options?
In Nvidia Control Panel, have checked to be sure it is set to Maximum Performance, not auto, power saving or something similar?

Yes all drivers are up to date. Can I change to running BI.exe in the campaign I am currently playing or do I have to start a new one?

Oh, my card is AMD 6850 and I don't know how to use their control panel, wish I had an Nvida card, but I only have a PCI Express .16x slot, no 2.16x or 3.16x, so I am limited on cards. Didn't know that when I bought the machine earlier this year.

Nvidia control Panle > #d Settings > Manage 3D Settings and in the Programs tab, and check for the .exe. In it is where cna do some fiddling even ieth a AMD card.

The card is a good one. Blame the old game.

I'm fairly sure that if you want to play with a different exe it's best to start a fresh campaign.

The easy way in-game of checking which exe you are using is to look at the top right hand corner on the options menu.

    If the number is 1.5 then it's R:TW. If it's 1.6 then it's R:TW BI. If it's 1.9 then it's R:TW Alex.....

    Brusilov,
I have tried a clean install of RTW 1.5 than used the following in the launch options at steam
RomeTW-BI.exe -mod: -nm -show_err and it still shows 1.5 in the options menu. What am I doing wrong?
