I'm getting 3 errors when launching RS2

I have have installed RTW about 6 or seven times as well as RS2. RTW is always patched to 1.5 before I install RS2. Everytime I try to launch a campaign I get these three error messages:


1. You dont' have Roma Surrectum II installed in the correct folder. (C:\RS2)
2.Engine: RomeTW-BI.exe, Faction campaign: -mod:play_rome
3.In total: 'RomeTW-BI.exe -mod:play_rome -show_err -nm -movie_cam'

If I pick a different faction other than Rome then I get the factions name in the errors instead of Rome. I have tried unistalling and reinstalling both games slightly differently each time. I have reading these forum posts from other people having similar issues but nothing seems to be working for me.

Any suggestions will be much appreciated.


I have OS Windows 7 64bit

Use RTW gold version without Steam and do not have BI installed

I always install both games into the C:/ drive so I never use the Program files (x86)

I finally managed to figure it out. I tried putting my RTW play disc in and then start RSII. I had no idea you were supposed to do that or even could do that. No other trouble trouble to report other than that. If you haven't tried that then go ahead.

Post a screen shot of what your install folder looks like. It sounds like you've simply not installed the mod in the right place.

RS2 is what I named thew Roma Serrectum 2 folder. I copied all the RTW files into the RS2 file but no matter what I try I get the same three errors.

Have you done exactly as the installation instruction says (except the path)?
I would advise you to uninstall, then install RTW in Program Files (or whatever the installer chooses) and then when you do that, copy all the files you have into another folder - make a copy folder. This way you don't have to reinstall RTW all over again, when you have a difficulty with any mod.

Install RSII 2.0, following instructions to the word, into the (I suggest) copied folder, then the same with 2.5, but make sure that the installer path is the same as the folder's you are installing into.

@Bonfire2012 - You only appear to have the R:TW exe in the folder. How do you expect to play the R:TW BI one?

Ignore what Rex Basilicus has posted - they've missed the lack of a R:TW BI exe.

We advise keeping games away from the program files folders for a good reason. Windows Vista and 7 can mess with the installs. Mainly due to User Account Control but Windows see those folders as 'protected' and some strange things happen.

Well, Im not really truing to pal BI. I don't really want to play BI anytime in the near future either so I didn't bother installing it. Do I have to have BI installed in order for RS2 to work? Because I heard that you didn't and I only want to play RS2 anyways.

The error specifically mentions RTW:BI - so you are trying to play using it.

RSII plays fine with just the R:TW exe - look at the launcher options. The game engine selection is under the faction selection.....

In order to play R:TW you need to have the disc in the drive. Only Steam allows you to legally play without the disc.
