    Default RTRVII vs RTRPE 2.0

I just spent half the day downloading and installing Alexander expansion and RTRPE 2.0 in the hopes of the playing the latest edition of the great mods for RTW. However, to my dismay I just read that RTRPE 2.0 is actually just an update of RTRVI PE 1.9... which would make RTRVII 2.1a the latest in the RTR world.

    Am I right?

If so, what are the differences between RTR VI PE 2.0 and RTRVII 2.1a? (aside from map extension)

Essentially, RTRPE 2.0 is the 6 year old original RTR mod adapted to be used with some Alex features. RTR VII is the latest release of the current developing team and offers a drastically changed, historically accurate and innovative gameplay experience. I'd definitely advice to check it out if you like the RTR series

A new RTR mod is also being made in RTRPE II. It will have features from both mods plus some other things as well but sadly it is not playable yet.

We've actually almost finished work on the patch (finally ) which we hope to release soon. Since we have had bad news before I'm not going to say anything about dates, though.

Sounds cool on the new patch and all... but I have to say it sucks to be so far in a campaign only to know that the new patch is not save-game compatible... somehow I would prefer a longer delay, but a better finished product. Please get it right guys and have the next project be RTR 8.

That's not really realistic, the patch has already been delayed for months due to issues we've tried to solve. RTR 8 would be a completely new project, taking at least 3 years to get to a release
Besides that, you could always finish your campaign before installing the patch

You can't demand that from Maurits, once RTR 8 would be finished he'd be an old man

And the next RTR will be for Rome II anyway...
"Pompeius, after having finished the war against Mithridates, when he went to call at the house of Poseidonios, the famous teacher of philosophy, forbade the lictor to knock at the door, as was the usual custom, and he, to whom both the eastern and the western world had yielded submission, ordered the fasces to be lowered before the door of science."

No! its going to be RTR VIII The East
I will sacrifice a ἑκατόμβη (hekatómbē) to Apollo, Dionysos and the other gods for such a mod

I think RTR team has far better potencial to making mods of smaller geographical scope but with a lot of details and realism put in it (which is exactly what I like). There for I would prefer see some "minmod" like TIC or FoE in the future. The Mithridatic wars are IMO great idea for such minimod. I would also love to play updated version of TIC or FOE with all new features from RTRVII and all minifacton replaced with playlable factions

I think we have to see what Rome II offers. I will certainly give modifying the campaign map a shot. It's just a pity we don't really know what to expect. There's a mod kit out for Shogun II, but we've already been told the campaign map will work differently again in Rome II.

Antiochos I support your proposal. Seleucids, Ptolemies, Scythians, Sarmatians, Bactrians, Parthians and Indians. Very good idea
I also like the Mithridatic wars especially since I read the book: The Poison King.

That might also be called '' RTR: Hoi Diadochoi '' I think that would be a great idea, but it would be difficult to convince the team of making a mod without Rome The prospect of almost unique factions like Atropatene, Rhodos, Nabatea, the Nesiotic League, Milet or Tyros who could feature in such a mod makes it worthwile, though- apart from the detail one could implement into the major successor states themselves and the campaign map. An eastern version of RTR VII, so to say

But in reality the RTR team won't have the time to do so many new mods. Muizer, you are of course right about RTW II, my comment wasn't totally serious. I just hope they'll make it moddable and you guys remain motivated modders if that's the case

I personally prefer RTRPE 2.0, because 1) larger map 2) it has Bactria which is my favorite faction 3) I prefer to see unit strengths from the flags the units carry without needing to examine the units 4) I'm perfectly fine with the classic style graphics.

RTRVII is more accurate especially with Greece and I like the division between cities and 400-pop minor towns. Still, I will continue playing PE 2 until VII at least gets a bigger map.
