    Default Second FAQ on www.totalwar.com

They have released the second FAQ, this time dealing with the campaign map.
Most of it is old news but the last part sound interesting:

    How will missions be assigned?

Missions are assigned by the Council of Nobles - this represents the great nobles whose main role is to give the player some guidance throughout the campaign by suggesting missions. Catholic nations will also be given missions by the Pope, with rewards or punishment depending on your standing with him. Players can also be assigned missions by any guild that they choose to build in their settlements. There’s a huge variety of challenging missions on offer.

Seems like they want to keep the game interesting by including those missions. I hope they really give benefits or even victory points of some sort. Say you have a merchants guild and the give you the mission to build a vast trading network, which will generate a certain amount of money, kind of like the Hanse thing in M:TW. I really hope that the missions will be meaningful and not just some guidelines for the new players, with real benefits to completing them!

Sounds good. Didn't know guilds could also give missions. This should ease up the tedium in late-game situations.

But will there also be punishment for not kompleting the task?

I suppose so. It depends on the mission: If the pope gives you a mission and you say "go to hell", he will promptly excommunicate you. On the other hand, the Council of Nobles are made of YOUR nobles, so, I guess the repercussions might be a bit less in this case. Still, if those Nobels decide to rebel against you, you got yourself a nice civil war.

I only hope they won't give you mission after mission, I want to do something myself too.

Hopefully if you destroy/defeat your "Council of Nobles", you don't have to worry about them again for awhile, instead of like the immortal Pope.

You wait until they're ****** off enough to rebel against you (just like in RTW). Of course, I'd prefer the ability to just have them killed at the click of a button BEFORE they revolt. If there was a button that said "kill all poor citizens" in RTW I would have used that button every turn to get rid of those frustrating squalor levels. The only way to get rid of them there was to have the people revolt, and only then could you kill the poor sods and exterminate the population so that the squalor levels went down again. I'm so tired of RTW. Please release the M2TW beta.

I very much doubt they will be on the campaign map for you to wipe out!

At best they will act as a "voice of the people" to guide your actions, at worst they will be able to throw your kingdom into open revolt if you don't appease them (which would fit better with the period).

At the end of the day, no king could rule without his nobles to collect the tax and provide the troops to fight his wars so they have to be there as a check on the player IMHO.

Who says you have to follow the missions? Hopefully it will be like the senate in RTW, they gave you missions but you coul ignore it and do your own thing.

Well, if you ignore missions the pope gave you, I think there will be more consequences then when you ignore the Senate.

They will probably be the same. I mean if you didn't fulfill the Senate's missions he got mad at you too and asked you to kill your generals and stuff.

You can probably also counterbalance the Popes aggression against you by building churches or giving him money, or burning some Heretics, so I wouldn't worry too much about it.

It just sounds so wrong! Give money to the Pope or burn people to death, and the Holy Father will forgive your actions. I'm glad I don't live in the middle ages.

It sounds wrong given we are accustomed to the fluffly cudly pope of modern times who never raises a voice in anger etc....

Back in the days the popes were mean mother *****ers.... beheadings, rapes, kids, orgy's, wars...

    Cool popes!

The guild missions interest me the most, something like Assasin's guild would be interesting, Assasinating royalty and whatnot, should be a nice diversion and would encourage the use of more agents.
The rewards might be cool too, maybe gaining an extremely high skilled assasin's services for your trouble.
All of a sudden some very powerful people would suddenly mysteriously dissapear...

I just bet they dont give us stupid impossible missions like when in RTW the senate asked you to make the gauls your protectorate.
