    Default M2TW Challenges

    Hey everyone,

I've been playing m2tw recently and finished the grand campaign on the hardest settings and I was thinking of trying some new challenges to make it even more challenging.

A friend of mine told me about a challenge he called the Blitzkrieg Challenge, where you set it on very hard/very hard and attempt to conquer all 100 or so provinces on the grand campaign map (excluding america) before your first faction leader dies. So basically within 42 turns. However, he said some factions are incapable of succeeding cause they can't crusade or jihad, which you need. He said he did it in 38 turns. I don't believe it.

On a scale of 1 to 10, how hard would you rate this challenge? I'm not even sure this is possible with any faction. It takes like 15 turns to get from one end of the map to the other with a crusading general without obstacles. And you're supposed to get Arguin as well, which is like the most annoying city to get cause it's so far off the beaten track.

Would also love to hear any other challenges.

There's another I've heard of, but it just sounds stupid and time consuming. It's called the Only Use Peasants Campaign. Basically you're only allowed to use peasants. No Generals or anything else. Just peasants. And finish it on the hardest settings before 270 turns are up.

    Cheers.

I've got a challenge, try and beat a single peasant unit with 3 gold chevron, fully upgraded feudal knights on Easy without dying.

Hardest challenge in the whole game.

It sure as hell sounds very hard to conquer the entire world, before your first faction leader dies.
First of all most of the faction leaders are already quit old, mine most of the time die of old age after 10-20 turns.

Is it possible to conquer the entire world in 38 turns?
I don't think so, Crusades and Jihads can be very useful to expand quickly, but they have a cooling down time of 10( or was it 15 turns??). So you could only use it 2-3 times in the campaign.
Then there is the vastness of the desert(arabia and Arguin) or steppes(russia).
Also don't forget you almost always lose a turn with besieging the cities so
you can conquer a lot in 40 turns but not the whole world I think.

Prove me wrong with a screenie plz! :p
In the chaos of battle, when the ground beneath your feet is a slurry of blood, puke, piss and the entrails of friends and enemies alike, it's easy to turn to the gods for salvation. But it's soldiers who do the fighting, and soldiers who do the dying, and the gods never get their feet wet.

None of those things sounds like any fun , just unnecessary stress .

I just spoke to my friend, and he said he was doing a video series on youtube for it. I saw some of the footage and WOW. 22 turns in and he's got 85 provinces on the hardest difficulty with the turks. He hasn't got Arguin yet, but he's on his way. He said the trick is to draw out the jihad/crusade as long as possible (about 11 turns) and to use dirty tactics against anyone you encounter. He showed me a battle where the took a HRE city without a siege by hitting the small army next to the castle and annihilated both the city garrison and the normal army, executing all prisoners and then sacking the city, and moving on, leaving only one troop behind. He lost like no troops. He said he estimates he'll actually do it this time by turn 30.
    I somewhat think he's cheating.

For some factions its perhaps worth a try, but for example Egypt start the game with a faction leader already aged 60, so its totally off the table for them.

I think the challenge was just meant to be done within 42 turns. The fact that the faction leader dying before then by natural causes doesn't seem like a good factor for failing the challenge.

My friend sent me a screen shot of his game at turn 16. What do you think?

Wow, puts the Timurids to shame.

As far as challenges go, I think tossing in any requirements for high Chivalry and positive reputation would make anything more difficult...

Yeah, that it does. All 106 European cities were taken by turn 29.

Quick question regarding Grog's Turkish invasion of Europe. He keeps mentioning generals spawning from either troops from other factions or from rebels. How is this happening? I don't think I've ever had a general spawn except by coming of age, winning a notable battle if he was just a captain, or by adoption. Trying to think if there was another way it happened but from what I can remember, those were the only three ways.

He means spawning generals by fighting rebels to get "man of the hour."

    One challenge that sounds fun:

Medieval 2: Total War for Independence.

kind of easy if you have until after the timurids to arrive. Even without crusades or jihads, you can wipe every other nation out pretty easily, especially since you are supposed to ignore rebel states. That's like 2/3 of the world you dont need to bother with.
