Alan Moore's Neonomicon censored by US library
South Carolina library declares award-winning graphic novel 'inappropriate' for its shelves
The comic book Neomicon by Alan Moore is censored in a South Carolina library after a 14 year old borrowed the book from the adult section with an adult card. I don't see any logic behind why they'd punish the book instead of the library workers for allowing a 14 year old girl to borrow from the adult section.

It's not like Neomicon is the only work of literature that contains curse words or disturbing images. Thousands of books would need to removed from libraries if this was to be the norm.

    How can this be justified?

    Ridiculous , just ridiculous .

So what if a 14 year old reads a book with curse words and stuff like that , why give a .
He will probably hear and see everything that is censored on the internet or in day to day life (especially the curse words ) .

Stupid law and a stupid case .

There is just no excuse for censoring a book or any art ( Looking at you music industry ) .

It's not curse words. It's graphic full color illustrations of brutal gore fest Cthulhu cult murder and mutilation and violent demon on woman rape scenes. Please look up what we're talking about first before you jump in. It's deliberately sickening horror fantasy. The sort of thing that is fine for adults to indulge in, but probably not ideal for kids.

The questions is whether or not the library ought to keep it available on it's shelves, in this case they decided not to. Obviously they can't actually ban the content from the public. And it was a 14 year old girl, whose mother unwittingly let her take it out because she didn't know the content. She assumed it was a murder mystery.

You know, I'm pretty sure it's at least vaguely illegal for 14 year olds to view pornographic adult content. The library did something wrong, so they have decided to pull the book to prevent this sort of thing from happening.

This isn't banning Harry Potter or something.

It would be helpful if you pointed out that it was the Greenville County library instead of leaving a crucial detail out.

Instead of trying to slam an entire country or a region of such you know.

Nope. What would be helpful is if you tried to read the OP properly. The OP clearly indicates that this incident took place in a single library in South Carolina and it implies that this is not the norm but an exception. If you read it properly we could avoid such failed posts as yours.

Oh, I forgot this is 4Chan. I'll shut up now, and ignore the posts that are trying to make it look like "America hates books"

But next time try not to leave out information. I didn't even have to dig into the article to see the particular library that did so. It was one of the first things in the article.

It's obvious why you quoted such a tiny section of the article and didn't even include the particular library in the remarkably bland title.

You chose "Alan Moore's Neonomicon censored by US library" because it was deliberately bland. Bland enough to make a person quickly look and think that this is a problem all across the US. A lie of omission is still a lie.

Based on the article it seems the child's parent was the initial antagonist of the situation. Typical helicopter parenting. The subculture of the South may be a factor here, but I'd say it's just more of the same kinds of obnoxious parents who pushed to have even children's books like The Hunger Games and The Golden Compass banned in some places.
Of these facts there cannot be any shadow of doubt: for instance, that civil society was renovated in every part by Christian institutions; that in the strength of that renewal the human race was lifted up to better things-nay, that it was brought back from death to life, and to so excellent a life that nothing more perfect had been known before, or will come to be known in the ages that have yet to be. - Pope Leo XIII

I wonder if that library has lost girls. I don't think anyone would bat an eye-lid if that was banned.
But this is just crazy hypocrisy, hundreds of thousands of books would have to be banned to meet such retarded and prudish standards.
Why does the south do crap like this? They must enjoy getting laughed at by the entire world.

Dunno, why do people pretend that a single library represents and entire region or that book banning is something either commonly or only done in that region? These are things we may never know.

Do public libraries usually have animated pornography on their shelves?

    I'm curious. I don't know.

From a quick Google Search Neonomicon is pretty explicit. There's a great pic of a woman getting her face ejaculated on by a fish demon dude while two naked guys are chilling jerking in the corner. Nothing is left to the imagination, it's not like a dirty novel. Not to mention all the gore fest violence and rape content.

Which is fine, I'm okay with it, but is that standard operating procedure?

I haven't been to a non school library in years, I'm the kind of idiot who tends to buy his own books. They got murder porn?

I mean it's not like they book is banned in the US or even the state, the library just doesn't want to carry it. Do they have to now?

Some libraries got rid of 50 Shades of Grey. That's just erotic language. They basically said that's not the sort of service they want to provide people.

I only opened this thread as I thought it was the US library, now it's a complete "meh" and should be moved to Thema Devia to discuss parenting instead.

Well these controversies always help sales.

Even the author Moore know he probably went too far. The illustrator's quite proud of it though and I can see why. It's got style.

It's the mother's fault, but I get the outrage.

Are you deliberately ignoring the fact that the library kept the book in the adult section, Col. Tartleton?

So the current system prevents a young person to go into the adult section and crack a book, take it out of said area, sit down in a comfy chair, and read from it?

I feel that a library is somewhere that provides easy access to educational materials and literature at no direct cost to the individual.

The whole point of a library is to give people the tools to educate themselves and enrich their lives.

I think it's reasonable to not have this book in the library. It's also reasonable to have this book in the library. But it's not a clear cut thing.
