    Icon9 Unspecified error

'Medieval 2 encountered an unspecified error and will now exit.'
This is the message I'm getting every time I try to run the game. System restore isn't working, and even a clean install did nothing! I have Windows XP. At the time of the first error message, I had TATW and Kingdoms v1.5. Anyone have a fix?

Third Age probably has a log file in its folder.
Most mods dump theirs in the logs folder.
    Vanilla's is system.log.txt.

    Now, campaign map? Battles? Both?

Check your permissions through your firewall, antivirus, and/or router?
Have you run Microsoft Update and install all software options? XP still gets a security fix here and there the autoupdater never sees.

Actually, I have a hypothesis- I accidentally uninstalled the Apple Application Support; that's what the sound files run on, so maybe that's what's causing the error? Anyway. I reinstalled that, but I can't open the sound files because the quick time player doesn't recognize them! Is this a problem I could possibly solve by uninstalling and reinstalling quick time as well? Should I look elsewhere for help in this subject?

Wait. This is the first time you've mentioned Apple in this thread. It's important for us to know if you're on a PC or an Apple system using Bootcamp/Wine/etc. Please dial that in for us.

Now the sound files for M2 should not use QuickTime to access those files by default unless you accidentally changed the file associations for the M2 audio files. This holds true for PC installations - it is probably different for an Apple install. That's a long possibility but it would most likely mean you were trying to mod them in some way - correct?

Answer those questions and come back. Here's some reference reading. Good luck!

One more thing since mentioning Apple. It's been proven iTunes will play Hell with Medieval2.

Ah. I think I might have. I was looking to find the soundtrack for it and may have changed the default to quick time. I'm using a PC. So what should the default program be?

How do I stop QuickTime from playing audio files. A detailed walk-through for you. This is about browsers but should work for you too. Good luck!

Uninstall the game, delte the folder(s), run a good free registry cleaner, reboot, reinstall and let the game find it.

The game uses Miles sound system with Bink Video and there is nothing default about them.

I reinstalled and got rid of the quick time problem, I think, but the unspecified error still remains.

DVD Gold? What is the language on the box?
which 1.5 patch did you install?

DVD Gold, UK rating (so language is assumed), UK patch.

Does just 1.4 start a Kingdoms campaign?
If so, it's the patch and why what is written on the box than assuming where you live.

It's not the patch. It might be some sort of mess-up in the settings of the PC... All I can think of.

You did not answer the question about 1.4.

I thought it was implied. Nothing runs. It isn't the patch. I didn't install it, actually, on the last install of the DVD's.
