    Default external hard drive

Is it possible to install MTWII on an external hard drive and run from there? My drive C: is full so I bought an external 3TB drive

Yes, but the loading may be slower than usual depending on what interface you are using (USB 2.0, eSATA, etc.).

USB2 transfer speed is far below the maximum transfer speed of HD. If you get Firewire-800 or above it'd be okay. USB3 and e-SATA are more than sufficient.

It should still work fine. Just be prepared for longer loading times.

Have you cleaned the C:\ drive with 'cleanmgr /sagerun:50' or CCleaner lately? Have you considered whether all installed programs are necessary and uninstalled unused Windows Features (such as Games)? Have you defragmented your C:\ drive lately? You can easily make room by executing these 3 crucial management tasks. Recently I opened up ~30GB by cleaning the disk, and defragmenting after uninstalling some games I don't intend to play for a while; and I left the save game folders alone, so the files will be available upon re-installation.
