This is a "pre-proposal" for the idea of a Hyborian RPG, set in the universe of the iconic Conan the Barbarian. There are several pending ways in which this potential RPG can very well go, so I have determined to post here in an attempt to learn if players would play this and how they would like it to be.

What is Hyboria or the Hyborian Age? "The Hyborian Age is a fictional period within the artificial mythology created by Robert E. Howard, in which the sword and sorcery tales of Conan the Barbarian and Red Sonja are set." - Wikipedia "The Hyborian Age is the period of history between the drowning of Atlantis and the beginning of recorded history, unknown to modern scholars. It is the setting for Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures and the tales concerning it largely revolve around Conan, Cimmerian barbarian who rose to become King of Aquilonia by his own hand." - AoC Wikia Supposedly set long before recorded history, and essentially its own fantasy universe with cultures based off of historical ones, Hyboria is the world created the author Robert E. Howard for many characters he created and all their stories. Each kingdom and culture corresponds to one historically, with twists of course. Oh, and there's magic. So that's cool. Note: Not every culture is obvious or exact. The Picts are actually more like pre-Columbian Native Americans. A map? Here You Are #1 Here You Are #2

I have 3 main ideas for now, based off the three major cultures present in Robert E Howard's universe:
the Gaelic Cimmerians, the Romano-Gallic Aquilonians, and the Egyptian Stygians.

(1) We will play as Cimmerians, which is land much like Ireland and Scotland. It is cut up in to many many clans, which all fight in feuds and the like, and all fight with each other against any invader intent on attacking Cimmeria. This is the homeland of Conan. This is a very PVP oriented version of the RPG, as players will form clans together, among the numerous NPC clans of course, and, well, be Gaelic Clansmen.

(2) Aquilonia, a Greco-Roman country set in a very French-like territory. This a kingdom, but not a feudalistic kingdom. So just a king, and then all the people below him. At the time and setting of the stories and the MMO Age of Conan, Aquilonia is beset by many enemies and threats, and this version would have all the players fighting for it.

(3) Stygia; Egyptians with a penchant and culture set around snakes and dark sorcery. The staunch rivals of Aquilonians and Cimmerians. One country like Aquilonia, but ruled by some form of council of high priests/sorcerers.

No matter what is chosen, I am intent on making this RPG feel very regional and, well, ancient.

For example, if playing as Cimmerian tribesmen:
Rather than have an event such as "An Aquilonian army invades southern Cimmeria intent on conquering", it would be like an unexpected encounter where a few players discover a column of Aquilonian soldiers marching south with some loot, particularly Cimmerian-looking loot. Ambush or not, your choice.

Also, things like how Cimmerian tribesmen would not usually know of events in Stygia, and their knowledge wouldn't spread far like a King's in Medieval Europe would.

Adventures that span across Hyboria are allowed by all means, as that is the essence of Howard's stories and universe.
They won't be easy though, and they will take long amounts of time to travel, and they will require quality RP on the part of the participants.
I would love to setup Conan-like quests for you guys, so don't be afraid to ask.

By all means, those 3 ideas are not the only choices.
They are just my original ideas, and what I interpreted as the best defaults.
If enough players gather on one different idea, I will gladly add it.

However, I will not turn this into a "one player plays a kingdom, another player plays another kingdom" game , IE an alliance game.

- Stygians will be interesting seeing as they are relatively Egyptian
- Aquilonians are Roman-like so I have some experience there
- Cimmerians because its a confederation of tribes which would be interesting.

At this time the only definite moderators will be Xion and I (unless Xion decides not to of course).
I want to keep the the moderators to scale with the playerbase, which, for all I know at this time, is only us.

I want to clarify:
These clans will be formed with other players beforehand, and then you will decide upon the name and all together. I'm hoping for groups of at least two.

For your guys convenience, and for my own conscience, I will be posting many guides and help threads regarding the lore of Hyboria and things that can be lore friendly, like Gaelic names that are Cimmerian enough.

I'm not allowing Clan Ultima, for example. I refuse to let that happen. (No offense to anyone)
