    Icon3 Time control

    Hi folks,

I don't know if this is common knowledge, but as a longtime lurker on these forums I can't remember seeing it in any of the guides or discussed at all.

So, if you didn't know, holding down SHIFT whilst clicking the time toggle buttons increases/decreases the time by a tenth of normal game speed. E.g. If you are Paused, and hold SHIFT and hit the increase time button 5 times, you'll be at 0.5 speed a.k.a. 1/2 Normal speed.

I personnaly use this often, like when I want to enjoy a close-up of a cavalry charge, manage a large battle or when I want to compensate for my old computer's lousy FPS.

Does any one else use this at all? Any other useful hotkeys people might not know about?

It's one of those things, right, where if you know maybe you assume everyone else does, but it's not written anywhere.

Another thing like that is being able to change the names of the settlements in game (Constantinople becomes Istanbul, maybe?) - I didn't know for the longest time but discovered it by a accidental click.

It would be nice if these kinds of details found their way into one of the big guides...

Not sure, but if you are asking about how to change the name of a settlement it is with the mouse - while in the settlement's build window, just click on the name at the top. So, for example if you are in the build window of Constantinople, click on the word "Constantinople" at the top and you should see a typing cursor appear. Backspace to delete and type in "Istanbul".

I always rename Bologna to something else... 'cause, you know, Bologna is a ridiculous name

Who the bloody hell would want to change the name of Constantinople to this ludicrous turkish stupid pissing name Istanbul? I hate the turks for destroying and ruining thousands of years of tradition with their ridiculous fanatic ways.
About the decreasing speed, I knew because I'm always using shift for everything, see the waypoints, set a route for the units, etc

    Baltic,

I'm just going to throw out this little list of Battlemap hotkeys which I use frequently:
F1 - shows you all hotkeys
    G - group/ungroup
CTRL + 1-9 - assign a group number to current group
SHIFT + 1-9 - set group into one of the formation types, with "9" as custom formation (useful, but I wish it was better...)
CTRL + SHIFT + RightClick - Set Waypoints for units selected. Sooo useful, esp. with cavalry you're wanting to flank with. Remember single click for walk and double click for run works perfectly with this too.
SHIFT - Show waypoints. Sometimes useful for which unit you told to attack which.
SPACEBAR - Shows where and how units will form up.
< and > rotate unit(s) left and right.
    D - toggle defense mode
F - toggle special (think fire arrows)
    CTRL + A = Select all units - CTRL + I = all infantry - CTRL + M = all missile - CTRL + B = all artillary - CTRL + C = all calvalry

    - hey, it took me a couple years of playing before I realised that I could use waypoints, and now I use them all the time.

Didn't know about these, i just never bothered with the custom controls and what not I will defineatly try out the custom waypoints!

And another one of noobish questions - how do people do the "select next"? I see it all the time in the few lets plays i have watched of M2, but never could figure out how to. Im talking about selecting the next unit card without the mouse, it can be useful if you want to play without pausing.

TAB for next and SHIFT+TAB for previous (had to look that up in F1).

No need for the Ctrl. That should be just SHIFT + Right Click or SHIFT + double right click, and you can use combinations i.e. Shift+ right click then shift+ right click then shift +double right click will cause the unit to walk to two locations and charge the third.
