    Rome.

Rome is where it all begin, the empire of conquest which would shape the very core of the modern world as we know it.

We are very proud to announce that it is also the first of our playable faction reveals in the Total War: ROME II line-up! Over the course of the next few months we’ll be giving you an insight into what makes them stand out and a few screenshots of each, just to get everyone fired up.

With Total War: ROME II we are bringing a new level of depth to our factions with each major power having its own unique unit roster and tech trees, making sure they all stand out amidst the enormous scope of the campaign. We’ve never before been able to put as much effort into creating distinctive factions to play as we are for ROME II.

We’ll be posting each faction as it’s announced here at: http://wiki.totalwar.com/w/factions so keep an eye out for more information hot of the digital internet presses.

    Enjoy!

How much computer power do we need to play the game? Will it be another economic boost to the computer industry?

This seems to be (barely) working for me:

What little I can see of Roma looks pretty sharp, though I pray that's strat map isn't representative of the actual one in the game.

Well that took a lot of refreshing but that was very interesting.

Furthermore, the player will choose to conduct the affairs of Rome as the head of one of three great Roman houses: The Julia, The Cornelia, and the Junia, each of which bring further economic, military and cultural benefits.
    All playable?

I have some doubts about my question as the map seems to indicate it is 1 faction.

Yes, all will be playable. We'll go into more details about how that will work in the future.

So we know that the 3 Roman families is going to make a return (no idea why, given most fans seems to hate it), and we know that there is a possibility that there will be a first cohort in the game.

Based on what is shown on the "strat_map", it seems like the Athenians and the Macedonian are some of the faction in the game.

10 actually since the Romans is represented as one faction on the faction page, but split into 3. I guess they have been saying 10 factions the whole time?

Anyway faction number is irrelevant, no Brutii is unforgivable: "We Brutii must rule Rome"

Still not bad, considering that they're going to break each up into their own little families.

Also, for those of you who cannot see the factions page, here it is:

Total War: Rome II brings a new level of depth per playable faction, each with their own unique unit roster, tech trees and one of three distinct nation styles making sure each one is a fresh new campaign.

We’ll be able to say more once all the factions have been revealed, but in the mean time we can say that the sheer scope of Rome II is far beyond the original.

I am very curious. From your words it seems like you have really taken the best you have achieved from the past games and remixed to give something never seen before.
The Cultures made the appereance in BI and they are here now. It seems like the number of "8" can be :
    1. The first 8 factions avaible ingame.
    2. The main groups inside which the player can choose who to lead.

I hope the quote about three distinct nation styles is not what i fear.
Can't imagine the Gauls, Britons and Germanics for example are the same "barbarian" nation style or belonging to the same culture.

For what it's worth I immediately thought of the Minamoto, Taira and Fujiwara clans from Rise of the Samurai. Each has a sub-clan choice:

Minamoto: Kiso Minamoto and Kamakura Minamoto
Taira: Fukuhara Taira and Yashima Taira
Fujiwara: Hiraizumi Fujiwara and Kubota Fujiwara

I imagine this will be similar - but with far more drastic differences between the family parts. Perhaps, like RotS, you can conquer/subjugate them, or work with them (but lets not joke around here, they WILL stab you in the back). Imagine the Rome faction and it's subgroups. Their overarching allegiance is Rome. But there's also infighting. Isn't that accurate?

I imagine provincial loyalty will also play a part (much like RotS and later FotS' Shogunate vs Imperial loyalty), and you'll use agents to swing the allegiance of various regions.

Only 8 factions playable. And I was hype to play the Illyrians ...

I suppose it is better if that means internal politic and different political organization.
