Icon5 About dwarves in 40K universe?

hi evrebody.while i was playing dwarf campaign in this great mod, i remembered while i was playing 40k games i never saw any dwarves.so just wondering what happened the dwarves in 40k .are they destroyed like old ones?(Edit:oops sorry old ones wasnt destroyed. they were vanished or gone somewhere)
From my opinion if somebody gonna find the way to going space ,they must be dwarven engineers. So if they got destroyed is there any info about that in 40k universe

by the way i dont much about 40 universe so dont blame if i sad anything wrong here
btw english isnt my main language so sorry for mistakes

I could be wrong but I believe the equivalent of the Dwarves in 40k is a race known as Squats. They made several appearances in some older reference guides, and there was even a codex of sorts released called 1000 squats, but I have not seen them come up very much in more recent works

Yes, you are right. Squats are the equivalent of dwarves even though they descend from humans but they have the same characteristics of dwarves, are short, bulky, good miners, etc.

In 40K the Squats, which where humans that colonized high gravity worlds for the minerals and such evolved into squats, so they where a abhuman race. However Games Workshop decided that they wanted to cut off the two universes*, or maybe the squats weren't selling as well as expected, or maybe both, so in a turn of events they declared that the Squats where extinct, devoured by the Tyranids.

I think there are some lore where few individuals squats still alive so you can still play with their miniatures as abhumans on the Imperial Guard or something, but not as their own army, I could be wrong, I don't play table top.

However not all hope is lost, the Tau have an allied race called Demirugs that are basically the squats or dwarf. It's a race of shorty and strong humanoids (with human/dwarf faces in fact) that is adept of mining and have very, very VERY powerful ships (they are found only as allies of the Tau in space, there are still no land battle demirug miniatures that I know off).

So that's about it. Do you need to know more?

*Of course the fact that some retarded latter made the necrons basically the tomb kings in space did not help the first hypothesis despite the wimpy and repeated attempts of WG to separate the two universes that are obviously one same universe.

At the begging the Fantasy one was supposed to be a 40K medieval planet trapped in a warpstorm. There where campaigns of fantasy warhammer (whatever they were, I think they were championships of people playing table top) where the prizes where pieces of equipment of 40K like pieces of Space Marine armor and such...

Latter Games Workshop decided to say that both universes are separated and have nothing to do with each other. Which is a rather poor and stupid call, since both share the same dark gods, the same basically background mythology and even races. Despite whatever stupid-probably-money-related decision they took I still consider both of them the same universe.

So far the only thing I read at deep really was the Taros Campaign, which I throughly enjoyed, whoever that's not a proper novel. I would recommend anything of Ciaphas Cain: Hero of the Imperium or the first ones of the Horus Heresy from what I heard/read around in forums.

The first 5-6 of the Horus Heresy are very good also (especially 1-3 + 5 imo), also the Ultramarines series by Graham McNeill is quite good. Unfortunately the 40k-based novels seem to have a higher quality than their fantasy (my preferred) counterparts.

Fantasy still has some gems: Sigvlad and the claws of chaos trilogy are pretty top notch.

Dwarven in 40k is actually the Squat which is a subspecies of human (say human settled in heavy gravity planets). These Squat have big allegiance with the Mechanicus and they're the inventors of several things like Ordinatus.

However later Game Workshop want to remove them since they deemed dwarf aren't couple with 40K. To remove them "officially" they let Tyranid consumed most of the Squat's homeworlds. The Squat was almost extinguished though some still alive inside the Imperium
