I just bought this monitor and i was wondering if i will need an SLI setup to run 3D properly or will i just need a single card something like a gtx 660 or a gtx 670 ? .

Also will i need special glasses to view 3D movies ?.

    I am going to be playing at 1920 x 1080 & 144Hz & 27 Inch Screen.

Obviously i did some research on the monitor and the panel along with its specifications which beat the BenQ series and the Samsung Series .

    Thank you for the help.

your gonna want alot of horse power

Example Elder Scrolls Skyrim using a GTX 680 Hardware Heaven got the following results.

    1920x1080 Ultra Settings

    Min 69
    Max 181
    Avg 101

    1920x1080 Ultra 3D Vision

    Min 28
    Max 69
    Avg 45

performance dropped by greater than half,
    CPU: i7 3770K 4.6GHz / i7 4930K 4.4 GHz / i7 4770K 4.6 GHz
CPU HSF: Thermaltake Water 2.0 Pro / Review Samples / Review Samples
    MOBO: Biostar TZ77XE4 / ASRock X79 Fatal1ty Champion / MSI Z87 GD65 Gaming
    RAM: Mushkin Redlines 2x4GB 1866 MHz / 4x4GB Gskill 2133 MHz / 2x4GB Kingston 2400 MHz
    GPU: Integrated / GTX 780 / HD 5450 Passive
    PSU: Thermaltake Toughpower Grand 1050w 80+ GOLD / NZXT Hale82 650w Modular / same
CASE: Nanoxia DS1 / Nanoxia DS1 / Lian Li Test Bench
    HDD: 160 HDD / 512GB SSD + 120GB SSD + 5.5TB HDD / 60gb SSD

Guess he won't be installing any serious graphic mods with 3D enabled, thats a ridiculous loss of framerate.

well running 3D vision essentially DOUBLES the work load now take into account syncing the image for each eye etc, well you get the idea double the work and alot of extra overhead it takes its toll

My fears have come true, I did not want to find this out as i already considered 3D to be somewhat less intensive however looking at them results i am quite upset that it takes so much horse power.

The only card that could allow me to game with stable rates would be a GTX 690 and the cost of this card is around £1000 for a very good one HUGE INVESTMENT!.

I would like to know a few things.

Is the 690 a worthy investment that will allow me to game for at least 3 years ?
Would you recommend instead of a 690 two 680's ?

Last one, Will the gtx 690 be able to run 3D for 3 years safely ?

Thank you i appreciate the help.

690 is dual gpu not all games work welll with 3D in fact many games cannot be maxed graphic wise in 3D without glitches, SLI can greatly improve framerates but can also be detrimental why people insist on going 3D when its support is halfassed to the extreme is beyond me,

your better off running your games without 3D with vsync on so you get a max non tearing frame rate of 120 + compared to typical screens at 60 would give a far smoother experience.

as for 3D games over 3 year sure, if driver support stays consistent but you wont be maxing them no. Next set of consoles releases next christmas this = next jump in system requirements for PC games again. It will do it but i doubt it would last 3 years doing 3D at 1080p at high settings.

Todays top games such as Hitman Absolution already run at 30-40 fps on a single GTX 680 at 1080p WITHOUT 3D. even if frame rates were 100% higher thats still 60-80 and SLI never scales to 100%

3D vision compatibility list is here: http://www.nvidia.com/object/3d-vision-games.html

unless its a full 5 stars it means you will notice glitches here and there the lower the score the more problems you face.

    Most games have halfassed support

example Assassins Creed games have gotten worse support over time the first game does well in 3D the rest get progressively worse

Empire Total War works great, Shogun 2 has issues.

RAGE has a 1 out of 5 score

etc it depends on the games you play older titles work better than newer titles then again the requirements to play them are also lower.

There is a reason gaming is going higher resolution aka 3 screens vs 3D

    cost of a 3D monitor / tv + glasses kit i can get 3 monitors and run 5760 x 1080 etc

the market for both is so small niether company cares all that much you bought into 3D when its not ready.

Would you recommend me to wait for the next generation of consoles instead ?, and invest in a decent 3D TV?.

    This is so annoying!!! xD.
