Default Diversity between regular units in europe.

    Hi ,
    My humble question is :
Is there any mod for Kingdoms that brings more diversity between units in Europe, but is not an overhaul ?
I'd like to play a new game so that I don't see the same units all over the game which is :
    spear milita and armoured sergants.

I can understand that these are general types, are much common in medieval Europe - but to be perfect clones in shape, name and skill is quite boring thing.
It would be more realistic that there units should vary, as every nation in Europe has its own drill and tactics, its own instructors, generals .
So they should vary in :
    1) in statistics (like the difference between Italian militia types and other european nations), a point, or two (attack skill, charge, defend) some could be cheaper, a little bit - just slight changes too add colour and life
    2) in graphics, this is exceptionally dull seeing the same units in battles all over
    3) image graphic in unit roster and NAME too

Do , any of you know such mod ? However, I'd like best not a major overhaul, like DLV which makes tons of other things I do not want as well as huge map that makes game unplayable for those who does have months to play a game (however this is fantastic mod because of so many various modifications)?

    Thank you for any guides!
    F.

The hardcoded limit is 500 units, so diversity as in two spear militias with one defense point difference but for two factions close together (e.g. England and France) is a waste of a precious unit slot, especially when there are so many other units that can be incorporated. They would have to be two separate units, and that goes for the name also - no single unit can have two different names. They can have different unit cards and info pics, however. There simply isn't the room to justify units with that much similarity between them. If you were to create your own mod, fine, but many modders focus on the bigger picture, and that means many factions sharing that 500 unit limit (generally, up to and including the 31 faction limit).

I also don't think there are any vanilla mods that overhaul units to the degree you want. Most mods that give units a major overhaul change other things too.

Thanks for your insight, its much appreciated.

That's perhaps an argument - unit limitation - but since you always have to go thru "militia and sergeants" stage and since so many nations share that same units
it's rather more justified to focus on them, and not on some high-end super units, which you get in the end of long chain of buildings (however it doesn't mean you shouldn't focus at all).
And further, since every major mod makes gameplay harsh becasue of economics, it is another argument that player buy units he can afford (militia) or have
    access to (sergeants).
You do not have to distinguish EVERY militia in Europe. 70% would be enough to do not feel the similarities.

But hey, I'm just saying .

Anyway perhaps you can tell me why major overhaul mods makes economics so harsh that you loosing thousands on start ?
Isn't it odd to start with nation that has so huge army that its economy can go bankrupt with it in 2 turns ?
What's so fun in disbanding units at start ?

I suspect these starting armies are awarded to factions based on the idea they'll be played by the AI, although one has to be chosen by the Human player. The idea is that the Human will disband whatever units he/she sees fit to disband. AI factions usually receive bonuses to their economy, especially on the harder difficulties, so it doesn't really affect the AI (it does also depend on which mod you are playing) - it's only the Human who has to cut his army down in size or face bankruptcy.
