    Default Please Help!!!

Okay I've been having issues with my external Hard drive for a while now. For many reasons the thing didn't work anymore, mostly USB related. So I decided to forgo the USB all together and turn it into a internal Hard Drive. I have it connected proper and it showed up on my Device Manager and the computer Management screen. So I try formatting it through the computer Manager and around 10% it stopped and vanished from the computer manager and the Device manager. I turned it off and the next day (today) its back in the device and computer manager screens for what ever reason. So I change the name to the E: drive and try to format it again but this time from the my computer screen. And it formats for a while and then tells me that it can't format the hard drive and it vanished again. It says to make sure its not read only memory and I'm not sure what ram has to do with my Hard drive. And Google really hasn't been able to find the answers I need so if anyone more computer savvy can help I will be much appreciated.

First off - what was the problem with USB that led you to the conclusion that USB was at fault here? I find that hard to believe without proof....

Secondly - from here it sounds like the drive itself is dying. What I want you to do is run the old MS utility CHKDSK. Here's instructions on how to run it.

Lastly - Here's the Walkthrough. Go to the Start button. Choose the Command Prompt (also labeled "Run" in Vista and Win7). Type in the following: [chkdsk e: /r] minus brackets. Let it cook.

This will check the drive for bad sectors and attempt a repair. After you do this please get back to us with the results. Good luck!

Its a USB issue because the USB has been damaged, people walking by my computer and yanking the cord out with there feet has damaged the USB and now it doesn't work. I tryed other USB ports but the connecter to the Hard drive itself has been damaged cause its fallen from time to time. Not far but I would stand it up and it would fall to its side messing up the connector. So I decided to make it an internal drive and here I am. thx for the advice I'll try it now.
