Default Using Manage 3D Settings in Nvidia

I have always wondered if it is beneficial to use the graphic settings through the 3D settings page rather than the in-game settings. Under the program settings tab in Nvidia you can tweak each individual game's settings, also you can do it with the Valve Steam program as a whole. Does that mean if I did it through Steam, that every game I play using Steam would apply those settings? Plus, if it does make each game look better, can someone suggest some settings for optimal game enhancement. I have a pretty decent rig so I am not too concerned with lack of performance. Currently using the in-game graphic settings, all set on highest setting, I can run Darthmod NTW with 40 units armies(multiple stacks) without any lag. I appreciate any and all feedback. Thanks

I only use it for specific games like Mass effect to force anti aliasing. Another useful feature is to force vsync off in games that dont give the option. Other then that its generally better to use ingame options as they are more stable.
