    Default A question for those of you who play barbarian factions

    Hi All,

    I was interested in starting a campiagn as the Britons, because i really liked the stats on their units, however I normally play on the Europa 270- map and I was concerned about the limited number of law/happiness buildings. I worked it out as siomething like- Egypt max happiness/law bonus from buildings 160% whereas the Britons could only add about 60% since most of the cities I take on the larger maps have an 80% distance penalty plus culture penalty plus an initial unrest penalty-I did not think it would be possible to rule the World as the Britons- Can anyone who has played these campaigns please let me know whats your experience of population control playing as Barbarians.

    yep, that's the annoying part of the mod. I'm playing britons as well. In the beginning everything goes nice, but as the population grows, unrest increases and you have to increase the garrison, costs rise, and soon you become unable to maintain such a vast amount of troops, and then:
    1. You can't recruit more troops and so wage wars or defend.
    2. Cities start to rebel, and you have to continuously "exterminate" them(((....
    And nothing can be done, unless you try to manually edit edb.txt and add more happiness bonuses, .... and that's what i m gonna do now))

    And why do you leave a barbarian population stay in peace behind walls...that is why they are murmouring.
    Leave only the women and the children inside....squeeze your population to create invading parties...or else you are no barbarian in DarthMod.

    i dont get it.., cause i was gonna do a barbarian campaign as well.

    With Barbarian factions your goal should be to have a solid core kingdom,and leave the rest of the world in smoldering ashes. Sack that huge city,exterminate all who live there,retrain your units,then burn everything down, and let the rebels have it .

    A very fair point-I guess at heart I am just too civilised to really do these factions justice, I Had a quick go at Gaul last night but very quickly gave up because I could not forsee a point where my army would rule the entire world. so i went back to to the Egyptians. Where i have nearly 70 provinces and have won nearly 200 batlles I have conqured Pontus, arrmenia, selucia and the 2 islands betwewen Turkey and Greece which toook out the Macedons as well. sarmatia (spelling) has just sent a full stack army to invade me from the north through the mountains-boy are they in for a surprise. I have been playing this campaign for about 60 hours now and there is still masses to do and some truly uber battles still to fight. This is what i love about the big campaigns. By the time I land an army in Italy they will have mases of men. It would be really cool if the barbarian factions had more happiness buildings for those of us who are just natural empire builders. imagaine Briton heavy chariots charging past with the pyramids clearly visable in the background. I play on VH/H on Europa 270 BTW
    oh well we are all different.

    I have had a similar (but lesser) problem playing as Thrace on the normal map. Lord Vader is correct. In the medium-late game I started wars just because I had to levy huge armies to keep my people from malingering in my cities. I must have levied twenty thousand macedonians for no other reason than to keep them busy.

    Just follow the tried-and-true policy of the U.S.A., from Teddy Roosevelt to George Jr. -> the surest cure for boredom and squalor is an unnecessary war of aggression.

    Also, make sure you don't leave your capital on the edge of the map. I moved my capital to Thessalonika while I smashed Italy, then back to Byzantion nearly a century later when I came to subdue Asia Minor.

    Happiness is moddable. i change the files ever so slightly to adjust the happiness. this is wot i do, go to your RomeTW/Data folder and open the Export_descr_Buildings.txt file. now i add this small text in

    trade_base_income_bonus bonus 6
    law_bonus bonus 8
    happiness_bonus bonus 6

    this obviously increases trade income, law and happiness.

    to add it into the files enter it into each governors buildings. by that i mean add which ever bonus you want (or all three) under the Governors Villa, Palace and so on.

    heres an example
