Default The Siege of Limerick, Ireland

After a short period of rest at Cork, Duke de Verbeek and his 2200 set out on the way to Limerick. They hope to capture the city before reinforcements can arrive, so immediately the chopping of wood for ladders, rams and siege equipment is being commenced.

Duke de Verbeek rides up to the wall, just out of range of the defenders' bows. "Send the garrison commander forward," he demanded of the men on the walls.

OOC: Roll: 10. The garrison commander is willing to negotiate.

The Garrison commander walks out of the city with his retinue, flying a flag of truce.

Duke de Verbeek nods to the commander, while his own retinue get more tense. "Are you Lord Limerick? I have a proposition for you. We stand at your gates with an army of three-thousand battle-hardened men, as i am sure you have counted from your walls. Tell me, do you wish to keep your title?"

    He frowned.

Shut it, English. I am only here because I care about my people. I propose that:

    The City of Limerick surrenders.
The people of Limerick remain unmolested.
English forces do not enter the city.

As we have no army, I'm sure you shall see the way of peace is the way to win over ireland.

"Yes, that was my proposal. Only with an addition. Your levies are to give their weapons to me, before they can return to their land, to make sure they will not easily become an army again. Your nobles will have to swear an oath to the English crown. Let's be honest, we do not trust eachother for one bit."

"Then who is on your walls, looking down at us? Your grandmother?" Bartholomew did not like being insulted one bit, especially when he was in the position to kill the man at his whim.

These are what you call my retinue. 100 odd men cannot stand up to 2000.

Finally, Bartholomew shrugged. He turned his horse, and said, "You owe me for this," as he rode away. Damn fool, he has the blood of Cork's garrison on his hands, but i have to keep them happy or see them rebel as soon as i leave. By nightfall, the siege camp was nothing more than a group of leftover pavillions and tents.
