    Default Turned down applications

Gaius Baltar, Freddie, Shyam Popat, Shaun, Octavian, Pyrrhus IV, Last Roman, Tormant, Corporal Hicks, Silver Guard

All turned down in the elections, why?

We don't get told why we were turned down, would it not be a better idea to PM those who don't get through to the vote on why they don't get though. I don't know about the others, but although I would not argue my case on why I should be in the elections, as I trust the staff, I feel bitter that there is no reason given. When I asked Mim I was told:
Only 15 slots availible per election and 25 applied.

Inevitably, some do not get chosen for a plethora of reasons. Some people had user notes, some were considered not active enough, etc.

Which dosn't realy tell me anything about why we were not included

PMs people, communication is everything (Is this in the right place? It is a proposal, and I have no idea why my text is green...must have been Mim's MSN)

I shall tell you why I was rejected:

I flamed a Quaestor two months ago and received a warning from Archer. It was more of a joke really, nominating myself.

No one was vetoed the staff have said so it was more of a choice who fits the criteria best rather than any flaw on the part of those who missed out.
Sure it would be good if everyone recieved a pm detailing why they missed out...but who knows how the process really works...it could in fact be that they all draw names out of a (virtual) hat, or Archer gets blindfolded and throws darts at a wall with names written on it...
From my point of view however each person who missed out probaly knows why in their heart or head, I wouldn't presume to voice what I think the reasons are however, as some people don't like it when a personality trait is viewed as a 'flaw'...

All in all though, why feel bitter? If you miss the cut for a job in the real world do you get a letter detailing why? No, you get a generic letter that says: "We are sorry to inform you that you have missed out, <insert cordial words, such as bad luck, good luck in the future, etc>, bye".
All it really does is let you know you missed out...which is what the election thread does for TWC, they both say "You didn't make it", it is just that in the real world we don't walk in for the next round of interviews to find we didn't make it, as that would tick people off, so they send a letter telling you not to bother.

So think of your omission from the list as a big letter saying: "Sorry, you missed out".

Aristocrat, you seemed to have missed the point entirely, i'd be lying if I said I don't care about missing the chance to be elected, but thats not what this suggestion is. I'm asking that we be told WHY we missed out. What were the criteria? What gave the others the upper hand? Personaly I have no idea, thats why I'm asking!

No I didn't miss the point, I was just saying that, like in the real world, staff don't have to tell you why you missed out, it is more upto the individual to look at themselves and think about why they missed out.
I never said it was fair, I was just drawing the comparison between applying for the elections and applying for a job in the real world, sure it would be nice if the staff had a criteria drawn up similiar to how university lecturers mark assessments, and then you could see where you fell down, but in the real world this isn't the case.

It's not a process that goes down well with most people if these and the prior elections (well the one where both you and me were in the vote) is anything to go by, but crap happens.

P.S: I can see my post sounds 'holier than thou' and high and mightyish ...which is not what I was going for, I'm just trying to say that this is what it is like in real life, it sucks and is a bitter pill to swallow , as you are essentially left to grasp at straws, which leads to something like this smiley.

P.P.S: If I was trying to be annoying and high and mightyish I would have used this smiley and said its the smallest violin in the world playing just for you (...I wanted to use that smiley).

You missed out because more than 15 candidates applied and of the final 15, there were 15 better qualified for some reaosn (time, fitting in with other staff, whatever) than yourself. What time zone will also have been pretty important, of course, as Archer specified preferable ones at the start of the nominations thread.

Note also that this is effectively a duplicate thread of Lord Rahl's here: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=57550

We didnt take people out, we just had to choose the top 15 as you all know, if your not one of them its bcause we think the others are more suited atm. Try again next time. In my day only 2 -3 people applied for a position, now its 25+, wtf.
Well, if I, Belisarius, the Black Prince, and you all agree on something, I really don't think there can be any further discussion.

Shyam Popat and Silver guard are in the EU timezone. So it seems to me that timezone/location wasn't actually a factor. I would also have thought that you would be pleased more people wanted to be moderators....

@LV, I know they are the top 15, what I want to know is WHY they are the top 15

Actually it was posted almost 10 hours afterwards...

They are the top fifteen because in our opinions, or more exactly those of the senior staff, they were the best suited fifteen.

I can only speak for myself they I say I recommended Tosig for his style and posting, Evariste for his Podcasting, Seleukos and Necrobrit for their tonns of experience, halie satanus because he impressed me in COW and Aemilianus for his interesting Curia posts. Those were the ones I felt were ideal and those were the ones I recommended. Others did the same and those with the most got it, we were debating this at least 4 days so dont think we didnt think about it.

Sorry to those who didnt get in, next time maybe .. but this is the ideal opportunity for you to show maturity and so on by not complaining.

@Aristocrat: Yes but this isn't real life, and in that we have an advantage
@ tGS, my bad, but that stil dosn't solve anything, as I have said many times, I KNOW they are the best 15, what I want to know is WHY they are the best 15

Erm - that is the reason. The 15 chosen were the ones that the moderators deemed fit for even being put in a poll. There can't be some sort of system where if you're in this election, the ones turned down are automatically in the next one. If you're good enough, you'll have a chance.

As Bel says, there was a lot of debate (mainly around those filling spots 10-15) and then we effectively all voted. Those who got the most support from staff got the 15.

Bel's list of reasons also pretty much echoes mine. I also wanted scottishranger as he has put a lot of work into the scriptorium as a librarian.

    Hope that helps?

I have to say I hadn't got a clue who had been in previous votes (other than the Senatorii obviously) so that had no bearing on my thoughts

Let me put it this way. I'm running at a 100% win rate when put in votes, but a .0029% put in polls rate.
