Default Thranduil's Halls, The Woodland Realm.

    Thranduil's Halls.

Thranduil's halls were just inside the eastern border of Mirkwood on the north bank of the Forest River, some miles upstream from Esgaroth. The great cave had many passages and wide halls and was more wholesome than the goblin tunnels in the Misty Mountains. While most of the Elves lived in the woods the king's halls served as his palace and treasure vault, and was also a fortress for the Elves in times of danger.

The entryway to the halls had huge stone doors that were closed and secured by magic. The throne room for Thranduil was a great hall with pillars carved from the living rock. In lower levels were cells for prisoners and at the lowest part of the caves were the cellars of the king. These cellars were built over an underground stream so that empty barrels could be dropped into the water and floated out to the Forest River through a gate barred by a portcullis.

    Information
The Woodland Realm was established by Oropher, a Sindarin lord of Doriath, after the War of Wrath. Unlike most Sindar, Oropher and his household declined the Valar's offer to depart from Middle-earth for Valinor. Instead he migrated eastward and became the King of the Nandor of Greenwood the Great. Oropher and his household quickly adopted the language and customs of the Wood-elves, wishing to return to a simple existence natural to the Elves before they had been disturbed by the Valar.

Originally Oropher's realm encompassed the entirety of Greenwood, with its capital at Amon Lanc. However, during the Second Age he and his people migrated north three times.According to one tradition, the first movement was northward beyond the Gladden Fields, due to Oropher's desire to distance himself from the increasing encroachments of the Dwarves of Moria and his resentment of the intrusions of Celeborn and Galadriel in Lórien. However his people did maintain constant intercourse with their kin west of the Anduin. Oropher was also disturbed by the reports of Sauron's rising power and by the end of the Second Age he dwelt in the western glenn of the Emyn Duir or Dark Mountains and his people lived north of the Men-i-Naugrim or Dwarf-road.

In S.A. 3430, Oropher and Amdír led their combined forces against Sauron as part of the Last Alliance of Elves and Men. During the Battle of Dagorlad the Silvan contingent refused to obey the orders of the Noldorin king Gil-galad, instead charging the enemy alone. They fought valiantly, but being ill-equipped and outnumbered most were slain, among them Oropher.

Oropher's son, Thranduil, succeeded him as king of the Woodland Realm and ruled for the duration of the Third Age.

Around T.A. 1050 an evil entity known as the Necromancer (later identified as Sauron) inhabited the abandoned halls of Amon Lanc, and Greenwood grew infested with Orcs and giant Spiders.[4] The Wood-elves retreated yet further north and many landmarks were renamed: Greenwood became Mirkwood, the Emyn Duir the Mountains of Mirkwood or Emyn-nu-Fuin, and Amon Lanc was known as Dol Guldur, the Hill of Sorcery.

In the First Age Thranduil was a Sinda, subject to King Thingol. At the end of that Age he was one of many Sindar who stayed at Lindon, but at the beginning of the Second Age they travelled eastward. Thranduil and his father, Oropher, eventually ended up in Greenwood the Great, where Silvan Elves of Nandor descent lived. Oropher was taken by them as lord and founded the Woodland Realm with the capital at Amon Lanc.

The few Sindar who had come with Oropher and Thranduil were soon merged with the Silvan Elves, adopting their language and taking names of Silvan form and style.

In S.A. 3434 Thranduil followed his father, and some thirty thousand lightly armed Elves in the War of the Last Alliance. In the Battle of Dagorlad Oropher was slain with the greater part of his people but his son survived. After the Siege of Barad-dûr in S.A. 3441 when Sauron was defeated, Thranduil led the remainder of his people north back to the Woodland Realm, where he was crowned king.

OOC- at the same time of the counsel meeting but unaware of and such meeting. I'm still not sure how to draw the connection between my character and the woodland realm so this is kinda doing that, lemme know if it's acceptable gandy.

It was cool, bright, and the wind gusted lightly through the trees. Cædöras arrived at Thranduils Halls entrance, seeking admittance. Being a captain in Thranduils army, his troop had just returned from a scouting mission.

I hate these halls, so cramped. I yearn for the fresh air and the scent of open woods. We will take back our land I swear it.

As an elf, and a former captain, he is welcomed in heartily, and shown into he court room where Thranduil, King of the Woodland realm, was holding court.

It was hard not to be in awe at the magnificence of the halls. Though Cædöras preferred the woods, he could appreciate the craftsmanship of the hall. He entered court and stood quietly waiting to be acknowledged. He was weary of the same monotonous routine and yearned for the true expulsion of the Orc and goblin threats

Legolas turned to the elf, looking at him curiously, before whispering something to his father in Sindarin. Thranduil held up his hand, and the court fell silent, with many turning towards the newcomer.

Hail, kinsman. What news do you bring?

Before he could answer two guards entered the hall dragging a lifeless body with them throwing it in front the king's feet.

But the body was not dead there was still a sparkle of life in it.

    Thranduil paused, and frowned.

    What is this? Explain yourselves.

Cædöras looked on without a word, but frustration in his eyes. The body laying there angered him, it was a reminder of the threat that lurks in the corner and thrives in the shadows.

    OOC: Thranduil is my character

    He stroked his chin, nodding.

Is it an Orc? A dwarf? What be this creature that you found?

Wherever this intruder was found, allow me to lead the recon party. Question him quickly that I may leave immediately! Cædöras said passionately, and slightly out of hand. He never thirsted for blood, but was indeed protective of the Woodland realm. He was not discrete with his words or the wisest of Elves, he was incredibly young after all, but he did tend to think he was one of the finer warriors.

Thranduil raised his hand for silence among the noise.

Whatever it is, we must tread carefully. The orcs of Dol-Guldur are treacherous, and we must be sure this is not some kind of trap. I do not want my soldiers marching into a concealed host of orcs.

Cædöras stood quietly after that. Thought he was a rebellious youth he would not act against his King....publicly. If the King had not made a determination in a day or two, Cædöras had decided he would set out alone anyway.

He continued, laying a hand on the shoulder of his son.

Send word to the elves of Lothlorien, and the men of Dale and Lake-Town. The Woodland realm prepares for war.

Then, when he should have held his tongue, he spoke
We have no idea who or what we fight, where they are or what their numbers are. Question this scavenger, allow me and my rangers to scout ahead while you prepare! I will lead the fight myself if it pleases those of import. Cædöras said quickly and loudly. There were many elders that disliked Cædöras and his unwillingness to listen, take advice or direction, he wished to see if they would allow him to lead, or force him to take someone else's orders as usual.

It is better to be prepared against anything... Especially since the shadow of sauron grows. I have no doubt that this diminutive creature is an agent of Sauron, and besides, we must march to restore the forest to its rightful place! For too long have the groves and trees laid untended and corrupted by the shadow. I will speak no more of this... To truly be safe the orcs must fall.

He frowned, then motioned for the guards to unmask the hooded cretin.

A goblin. How quaint. Finish it off, preferably someplace else.

Cædöras stood silently for a moment.
My troops search of the woods yeilded little other than a few scouting parties of goblins. We executed them on sight and kept moving. Brining any back would have hampered our movement. I did not think they might be part of a larger scheme....I shall make ready for a departure my King he said and turned to leave
