    Default Saxons vs. Huns

    Hi guys,

Playing Goth mod 2.4.1 for BI 1.6. Have won the campaign as the Saxons by expanding westward and taking all of western Europe and then eastward and taking Italy most of the Balkans and the Baltic area. But want to take as much of the map as poss. My heavy infantry and cav cut through all opposition I met. Until now, when I met the Huns. I tried making armies only of Saxon Sea Raiders - didn't work. I can only recruit 1-3 horse archer merc units per turn and the Hun horse archer armies are totally owning anything I send at them. This is one of the few units the AI can handle very skillfully, showering you with arrows and withdrawing just before you reach them so your units become exhausted.

Any tips for beating the Huns as the Saxons? :-)

    Cheers, Germanicus91

I played with BI a long time ago. Problem is, that Saxons had a crap cavalry, even if you reach huns and force them to meele, they can just slaughter the saxon riders.
Recruit as many mercenaries as you can and concentrate arrow fire on one approaching hun unit at the same time. Gather more generals in an army not just one. Try to chase down horse archers and attack them with more units.
Or protect your helpess infantry with chosen archers (saxons have such unit if I remember well) Archers generally shot to a greater distance than horse archers. Let them attack, and archers will decimate them.
So, foot archers and swift cavalry with heavy cavalry. Concentrated attacks, and every possible way to avoid the rain of hun arrows.
I know its not that much, but....

Well i had the same problem in my saxon campaign...
Until 420 AD everything was gooing smooth, i had alot of full stack armys... and thousands of money... my territory was this: All of Britain (including ireland), Scandinavia, North germany, Netherlands, North france, most of the russian stepps , The Balkans, greece, half of asia minor, crete, Cypress and half of north africa(egypt and cyrinica i think it is called)...

The huns were raiding Italy and south france, I decided that theese places were vital for my sea trade... so i send two full stacks to italy and met the huns in open battle(i got my ass kicked) so my empire was standing back with no army... 1500 huns agianst 2200 Saxons... They won... (dammed horse archers GRRR) so i went all crazy and used half of my money on mecenary (hippo toxotia, cant remember there name) from all my former Roman provinces ... So i attacked italy agian (with 5000 men!!!) this time i won with nearly no causualtys?!!! (so remember horse archer are GREAT)

Just lure and flank...although you will need trees on the flank for this to work. Or just destroy them at the bridges
