Default Erebor - The Lonely Mountain

    Dwarves of Erebor

The Lonely Mountain rises above Long Lake and overlooks the valley in which Dale is situated. A channel cut directly into the mouth of the mountain cascades downwards to the south several hundred feet until it reaches the river ports of the dwarves which then lead directly to Dale and Esgaroth, and eventually Long Lake. The Mountain is only approachable to the south by foot, except for a secret passage known only to several dwarves which faces westward.

The Dwarves of Erebor are renowned for their wealth. The mountain having been colonized for some time already, the dwarves have established a vast network of overland trade with the men of Dale and more distantly, the elves of Mirkwood. These dwarves are a very proud people, and boast craftsmanship of incredible quality. It is said that even the least skilled among them is lauded and receives patronage from benefactors. The Dynasty of the Longbeards has rules Erebor since its foundation.

    Traits of the Dwarves:
    - Children of Durin: +2 defense in battle rolls
    - Axes of Khazad Dúm!: +1 offense in battle rolls
    - For the Great Smith, Aulë!: +5 modifier to all defensive siege rolls
    - Low-light Vision: Able to see in the dark and at night

Thráin II Longbeard, King Under the Mountain

Special Items: Ring of Thror (+3 to field battles, +3 to morale of allies on the field, +100 gold generated per year)

Thráin II is a descendent of the first founder of Erebor, an exile of Moria. He is often seen adorned with a jewel-encrusted belt, a small golden crown, and a large sword hanging by his side. For his own part, he does not smith, but he has taken an interest in the creation of smaller works of art, specifically gold inlaying. He had a dislike and suspicion of Elves, but gets along quite well with the Men of Dale. He has seen his fair share of war, being part of the expedition to Moria to avenge the death of his cousin when Azog was slain. He is 134 years of age.

    Fundín Ironshield

    Special Items: none

Fundín Ironshield gained his nickname from his use of a large, heavy shield in combat in tandem with a small axe. This rather unorthodox method of fighting had been gaining in popularity with the younger dwarves, This new method of fighting revolves around adapting tools usually used for mining to become weapons. The familiarity with the tools breeds a certain comfort in their use. Fundín is a jovial dwarf that shares none of his father's prejudices. He is 43 years of age.

After a short travel on foot, King Brand arrived to the city of Erebor.
His personal retinue consisted of about 20 elite horsemen, dressed in a silver mail shirt with details in gold. The men were tall and proud, just as their King and wielded swords and war axes with round shields.
Normally these mighty warriors would ride on their fast and sturdy horses, bred by the remnants of Rhovanion, who once were the most praised of the horsemen but due to the terrain every man had to rely on their feet to move

They quickly moved to the Palace, where they asked for an audience with the King of the Lonely Mountain, Thrain Longbeard

The descent into the chambers and corridors of Erebor proved to be a somewhat claustrophobic experience. The Foundries within the deepest levels of the mountain were putting off a good bit of smoke, often forcing the company to press napkins to their faces against the fumes. After making their way down various staircases carved into the living rock and glittering caves, the Vaulted throneroom appeared. Thráin was being shown the latest creations from the forges, weapons fit for a King, encrusted with gems and glittering in the torchlight. The company of men were admitted into the chamber before Thráin.

The King kneeled, and his followers bowed even lower; Brand rose gracefully and only a few seconds later his loyal retinue did the same
The calm grey eyes of the fair King of Men set on his Dwarven counterpart; Carefully he analyze him, from head to toes: his armor, his beard, his face and finally his eyes and a wide smile came to his lips

Old friend, the Men of Dale salute you

The King Under the Mountain motioned for the company to rise

"Rise, friends of Erebor. What brings you to the mountain this day, or is it night?

It is the sunset, dear King, or at least it was when we last saw the sky

    He paused

We come to renew our friendship, King Thrain. It has been way too long since I've visited Erebor, or you Dale

    He sighed, showing some concern

Of course that is not the only reason,

"Yes, I am afraid that once one becomes accustomed to delving and living within the mountain, removing himself becomes a chore. Long have I spent time in the halls of my Fathers, admiring their many crafts and discoveries, but we cannot afford to be so inwardly focused any more. With an expedition underway to Khazad-Dum and many other disturbing bits of news, we must once again focus our attention outside these halls."

There is an expedition to Moria?

Brand was immensely surprised. From what he had heard Khazad-Dum was the grave of many thousands of Dwarves; And venturing there seemed risky, to say the least

    Thrain looked grim

"Yes, my relations of the Blue Mountains have finally despaired of coal mining. It is a demeaning task, and they have opted to attempt to reclaim Durin's Kingdom. I consider it suicide, but alas."

There is always hope, my friend

    He pauses

But the shadow of Dol Guldur is growing larger, the horsemen of the East are uniting, the Goblins are moving again and a new Dragon has arised
I fear that we will not survive if we do not fight together

His tone changed to a more serious one

So I propose you to formalize an alliance with my people, so we may fight our enemies together.

There is indeed a large host of foes arrayed against us, and Men and Dwarf must fight side by side for the mutual protection of all. I accept your proposal.

Thrain descended the throne, and clasped Brand's hand

    You honor me, dear friend

He bowed, and rose after a few seconds

I have to go now, as I would hate to travel during night. But I invite you to feast with me and my son, King Thrain, and perhaps we could talk more about combining our efforts to fight the enemies of the Free People

OoC: If you are planning to assault the Goblins, come to Dale and we will discuss a plan to fight them together

Thrain, King of The Dwarves and King under the Mountain,

You have our aid in any conflict with the northern goblins, should you wish to have it. The elves and dwarves have not always had the most cordial of relationships; but it is my belief that we should band together against the shadow.

Thranduil, King of the Woodland realm, Lord of Mirkwood.
