    Dol Guldur

    Faction Leader
Azûlagân the Black Dread, "The Shadow of the East"

    Location
    Southern Mirkwood

    Residents
Black Numenoreans, Orcs, Uruks and Men of Balchoth/Evil Men

    History
Dol Guldur, also known as the "Hill of Sorcery" and originally named Amon Lanc (Bald Hill) is a mighty fortress constructed by Sauron in the year 1,000 of the Third Age. It is known that after the structure was completed by the Necromancer, a great shadow and dark clouds issued forth from it, turning the beautiful Greenwood, home of the Silvan Elves, into the presently known Mirkwood, a realm filled with dangerous and tainted creatures that were twisted by the will of Sauron. Many travelers and Free People of Middle-Earth tend to stay away from the darkness of Dol Guldur which contends with the magic of the Elves from Lothlorien and the Woodland Realm.

Recently, the White Council had issued a preemptive strike upon Sauron's growing power at Dol Guldur and forced the Dark Lord to flee further East for Mordor. It was later occupied by the Nazgul, Khamul, King of the Easterlings before the servant of Sauron was returned to Mordor. Now the mighty fortress, a haven for twisted creatures, Orcs, Uruks and Trolls, now serve a new master, a Black Numenorean known as Azûlagân the Black Dread. Like the Dark Lord, Azûlagân hopes to corrupt the Woodland Realm and make it into a mighty kingdom to serve the Will of his master, Sauron. He follows the Will of Sauron and begins to build a great army of dark creatures and soldiers to serve Sauron in his conquests and interests with the Woodland Realm and the area of Rhovanion.

Today, many travelers and elves can hear the hammers of Orc smiths, the war drums, the cries of tortured slaves and noises of strange and dark creatures echoing from the fortress of Dol Guldur. From its very structure, dark mists and clouds issue into the air, covering the immediate surrounding in the shadow of Sauron. Though the plans of Azûlagân are unknown, the noises echoing from Dol Guldur make the Elves ever more guarded against the growing power that is forming within its walls. Under the orders of Sauron, a great army is being bred for one purpose: to subjugate and destroy the Free Peoples that live in Rhovanion and place the entire realm under the shadow and will of the Dark Lord, Sauron.

    Main Characters
    Azûlagân the Black Dread

    Azûlagân the Black Dread

    Alias: Shadow of the East
    Age: 102
    Race: Black Numenorean
    Allegiance: Sauron
    Titles: Lord of Dol Guldur

Special Item: Ring of Khamul (+3 to Dread when fighting Men and Elves, +4 to all scouting, )
    Black Numenorean Traits:
    - Servant of Sauron: +2 offense in battle
    - Black Cloud's Enchantment: +1 modifier for all Evil Faction battle rolls in the area (Costs 1 units of Ancient Evil; can be negated by Elvish lore)
    - Spying Crows: +2 for spying rolls (Costs 2 unit of Ancient Evil; can be negated by Elvish lore)
    - Might of Barad-dûr: +3 modifier to all defensive siege rolls
    - Dark Magic: Able to use Ancient Evil as cast spells and to negate Elvish Lore (units gained through economy, see Evil Faction economics)year; check Evil Faction economy tab)

The background of Azûlagân the Black Dread is shrouded in mystery. Like many servants of Sauron, only speculation can be made upon the Dark Lord’s principal minions. It is believed that since Azûlagân is a Black Numenorean, he may have been born in the port city of Umbar in Harad, a haven of pirates with many being descendants of the King’s Men or Black Numenoreans. It is also speculated that due to his abilities in Dark Magic, Azûlagân caught the eye of Sauron’s minions and was summoned to serve the Dark Lord as a personal servant of the Eye. His power only grew and grew under the service of the Eye; his knowledge of Black Magic became greater under the service of the Eye, yet his name remained unknown to many despite his feats. For his loyal services, the Dark Lord would reward Azûlagân with Dol Guldur, the former fortress of the Nazgul Khamul, located in Mirkwood. Along with it, the Black Numenorean was given the Ring of Khamul, a sign of his authority and dread among the creatures and servants of Sauron that lurked in Woodland Realm. It is due to his presence at Dol Guldur that Azûlagân gained the name Shadow of the East as his Black Magic twisted the minds of wild creatures to his own will and Orcs roamed freely through Mirkwood, pillaging and plundering as his shadow spread across the Woodland Realm. With one hand, Azûlagân corrupts the land and creatures of Mirkwood to do his bidding, using them to amass a great army to serve Sauron’s interests in Rhovanion. With the other, a great Morgul blade rests, slashing deep wounds through the Woodland Realm, making her bleed for defying the Will of Sauron. By the day, the shadows from Dol Guldur continue to spread across the land of Rhovanion and his armies grow more and more. The clamor of drums and the war cries of Orcs, Trolls and other malicious creatures could be heard for miles and send chills down any outsider’s spine. Azûlagân bids his time within his fortress, waiting for the day when his armies can fully and finally eradicate the Elves of Mirkwood and drown Woodland Realm in the shadow of Sauron forever.

Lugdush, Chief of the Orcs and Uruks
    Lugdush

    Alias: N/A
    Age: 46
    Race: Uruk
    Allegiance: Sauron and Azûlagân
Titles/Ranks: Lieutenant of Dol Guldur and Chief of the Orcs and Uruks

    Orc/Uruk Traits:
    - Soldier of the Eye: +1 offense in battle
    - Will of Sauron: +1 defense in battle
    - Sunlight: -1 to morale if fighting in direct sunlight

Lugdush is a long standing minion of Dol Guldur, having served since the beginning of Khamul's ruler to the present day of his superior, Azûlagân. He is widely known as the leading general and servant of Dol Guldur, holding the rank of Lieutenant of Dol Guldur. His fierce reputation and skill has earned him the title Chief of the Orcs and Uruks/ Despite his deformities, Lugdush is a highly skilled warrior (being bred as an Uruk) and one to be reckoned with; heightening his reputation as the right hand servant of Azûlagân. He is mostly seen either consulting the Black Numenorean in Dol Guldur or barking orders in the training fields to newly bred Orcs.

The Orcs of the Misty Mountains

Ruling from the North of Gundabad to nearly the dwarven mines of Moria, the Orcs of the Misty Mountains have established a whole empire, ruled by different tribes and leaders of the so-called goblins, which look quite inferior to their cousins, who once served the Dark Lord in Mordor and were the main part of his army.
Nevertheless even without the technological knowledge of Sauron's forces the Orcs of Goblin Town shouldn't be underestimated by their enemies. Especially when they attack in large forces...

Traits of the Orcs of the Misty Mountains:

    - Remnants of Angmar: +1 offense in battle
    - Small Stature: +1 to scouting rolls
    - Low-light Vision: Able to see in the dark and at night
    - Light Foot: +1 to ambush rolls
    - Sunlight: -1 morale if fighting in direct sunlight

    Characters

    Kragash, the Great Goblin King

    Age: 61
Items: Great Battle Axe of Azog (+3 to all offensive battle rolls, +3 to Dread when fighting Dwarves)

Being the strongest and most intelligent goblin tribe leader arount the Misty Mountains, Kragash declared himself after eliminating lots of his rivals by poisons or battles to the Great Goblin King decades ago. Now he is the ruler of an empire which he would like to expand as soon as possible, knowing that the evil forces of Dol Guldur and the dragons are rising against the west.

    Ghar, his first chieftain

    Age: 53
    Items: /

Ghar is following Kragash since his first years as a member of the goblin tribes. He fought in the time during Kragash's successful rebellion against the old Great Goblin King the major battles around the region of Goblin Town while his leader attacked the main city of the Goblin tribes. But though he could easily take Kragash out as one of his familiars, Ghar stays loyal to his king knowing that there are even worser and less intelligent chieftains than Kragash are out there who would like to inherit him.

    Dwarves of Erebor

The Dwarves of Erebor are renowned for their wealth. The mountain having been colonized for some time already, the dwarves have established a vast network of overland trade with the men of Dale and more distantly, the elves of Mirkwood. These dwarves are a very proud people, and boast craftsmanship of incredible quality. It is said that even the least skilled among them is lauded and receives patronage from benefactors. The Dynasty of the Longbeards has rules Erebor since its foundation.

    Traits of the Dwarves:
    - Children of Durin: +2 defense in battle rolls
    - Axes of Khazad Dúm!: +1 offense in battle rolls
    - For the Great Smith, Aulë!: +5 modifier to all defensive siege rolls
    - Low-light Vision: Able to see in the dark and at night

Thráin II Longbeard, King Under the Mountain

Special Items: Ring of Thror (+3 to field battles, +3 to morale of allies on the field, +100 gold generated per year)

Thráin II is a descendent of the first founder of Erebor, an exile of Moria. He is often seen adorned with a jewel-encrusted belt, a small golden crown, and a large sword hanging by his side. For his own part, he does not smith, but he has taken an interest in the creation of smaller works of art, specifically gold inlaying. He had a dislike and suspicion of Elves, but gets along quite well with the Men of Dale. He has seen his fair share of war, being part of the expedition to Moria to avenge the death of his cousin when Azog was slain. He is 134 years of age.

    Fundín Ironshield

    Special Items: none

Fundín Ironshield gained his nickname from his use of a large, heavy shield in combat in tandem with a small axe. This rather unorthodox method of fighting had been gaining in popularity with the younger dwarves, This new method of fighting revolves around adapting tools usually used for mining to become weapons. The familiarity with the tools breeds a certain comfort in their use. Fundín is a jovial dwarf that shares none of his father's prejudices. He is 43 years of age.

    The Elves of Mirkwood

    Information
The Woodland Realm was established by Oropher, a Sindarin lord of Doriath, after the War of Wrath. Unlike most Sindar, Oropher and his household declined the Valar's offer to depart from Middle-earth for Valinor. Instead he migrated eastward and became the King of the Nandor of Greenwood the Great. Oropher and his household quickly adopted the language and customs of the Wood-elves, wishing to return to a simple existence natural to the Elves before they had been disturbed by the Valar.

Originally Oropher's realm encompassed the entirety of Greenwood, with its capital at Amon Lanc. However, during the Second Age he and his people migrated north three times.According to one tradition, the first movement was northward beyond the Gladden Fields, due to Oropher's desire to distance himself from the increasing encroachments of the Dwarves of Moria and his resentment of the intrusions of Celeborn and Galadriel in Lórien. However his people did maintain constant intercourse with their kin west of the Anduin.[1] Oropher was also disturbed by the reports of Sauron's rising power and by the end of the Second Age he dwelt in the western glenn of the Emyn Duir or Dark Mountains and his people lived north of the Men-i-Naugrim or Dwarf-road.

In S.A. 3430, Oropher and Amdír led their combined forces against Sauron as part of the Last Alliance of Elves and Men. During the Battle of Dagorlad the Silvan contingent refused to obey the orders of the Noldorin king Gil-galad, instead charging the enemy alone. They fought valiantly, but being ill-equipped and outnumbered most were slain, among them Oropher.

Oropher's son, Thranduil, succeeded him as king of the Woodland Realm and ruled for the duration of the Third Age.

Around T.A. 1050 an evil entity known as the Necromancer (later identified as Sauron) inhabited the abandoned halls of Amon Lanc, and Greenwood grew infested with Orcs and giant Spiders.[4] The Wood-elves retreated yet further north and many landmarks were renamed: Greenwood became Mirkwood, the Emyn Duir the Mountains of Mirkwood or Emyn-nu-Fuin, and Amon Lanc was known as Dol Guldur, the Hill of Sorcery.

    Characters

    King Thranduil I

    Age: unknown, at least 5000

Items: Bow of Thranduil (+3 to offensive rolls, +4 to ambushing)

    - The Firstborn: +1 swordsmanship in battle
    - People of the Trees: +2 accuracy of bows and +1 to ambush rolls

    - Keen Eyes: +4 roll modifier to detecting ambushes (battle trait)
    - Elvish Lore: Able to use Elvish Lore to cast spells and to negate Dark Magic (Units gained through economy each year; check Good Faction economy tab)

In the First Age Thranduil was a Sinda, subject to King Thingol. At the end of that Age he was one of many Sindar who stayed at Lindon, but at the beginning of the Second Age they travelled eastward. Thranduil and his father, Oropher, eventually ended up in Greenwood the Great, where Silvan Elves of Nandor descent lived. Oropher was taken by them as lord and founded the Woodland Realm with the capital at Amon Lanc.

The few Sindar who had come with Oropher and Thranduil were soon merged with the Silvan Elves, adopting their language and taking names of Silvan form and style.

In S.A. 3434 Thranduil followed his father, and some thirty thousand lightly armed Elves in the War of the Last Alliance. In the Battle of Dagorlad Oropher was slain with the greater part of his people but his son survived. After the Siege of Barad-dûr in S.A. 3441 when Sauron was defeated, Thranduil led the remainder of his people north back to the Woodland Realm, where he was crowned king.

    Prince Legolas

    Age: 700

The eldest son and heir of King Thranduil, Legolas often acts as an ambassador for his father. He is renowned as one of the finest archers in middle earth, and his skill with the bow is famed and revered.

    Goblins Of Moria
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

With the defeat of Sauron, Khazad-dûm was able to recover somewhat, and it was not until 1300 years later that the Longbeards came under renewed attacks by Orcs.[4] By that time, the more easily accessible veins of mithril had become exhausted, and eventually, in the year 1980, the miners of Khazad-dûm delved so deep that they disturbed or released a balrog, an ancient demon from long before, forgotten, and powerful. This balrog of Morgoth killed King Durin VI in that year, and in the following year Náin, his son. The Dwarves were unable to defeat Durin's Bane, or even drive it away, for steel and stone had no effect on the ancient being, and so were forced to flee their ancient home, relocating to Erebor. Khazad-dûm was deserted, and the elves renamed it Moria. Thereafter, Orcs of the Misty Mountains made Moria their home.

    - Small Stature: +1 to scouting rolls
    - Low-light Vision: Able to see in the dark and at night

    - Small Stature: +1 to scouting rolls

    - Sunlight: -1 morale if fighting in direct sunlight
Bio A strong goblin leader upon losing a duel to Rugtak he and his tribe begin following and advising the new chief. He is obviously the best choice for second in command and has proved it with his ability in combat.

    The Men of Dale

At the feet of the lonely mountain, the city of Dale stands proudly. Founded by northmen who were seeking to take advantage of the trade coming out and in of Erebor, Dale is a commercial and geographical hotspot. Everyone, merchant or visitor, has to go through it to enter the Dwarfish Kingdom. Due to this the King's under the Mountain have kept a great relationship with the Men of Dale, eager to trade with them and specially hire some mercenary riders from them

    King Brand, the Northern Hawk

Brand, the son of Girion, is the current ruler of the Kingdom. Even though there has been some time since the last wars, Brand is a skilled warrior and general. Taking advantage of his cavalry scouts, Brand is known for having an eye in every town, village or city of his lands. Intelligent and brave, Brand is a cautious man but also ambitious

    Age: 43

    Prince Bain, the Hare

Bain is the first son of Brand. A slim and tall boy, he is fast and agile, therefor he has been called the Hare since he was a little toddler. Cunning as a cat, he is the right hand of his father, even though he is a young man

    The Goblins of Gundabad

The Goblins of Gundabad are the descendants of those once-powerful goblins that captured Gundabad and drove out the Dwarves. They have since lived like an independant clan, though they have good relations with the other goblin tribes and chieftains.

    Warlord Graznok

    Age: 46
Warlord Graznok is the goblin lord who rules over Gundabad and its goblins. Having killed all of his rivals in single combat one by one and eaten them afterwards, the goblins under him think of Graznok as a demi-god, a dread one.

    Chief Yok

    Age: 58
Chief Yok is Warlord Graznok's distant cousin, and close friend as well as his first lieutenant. Though he is far less proficient in arms than Graznok, he actually seems to understand the basics of tactics. But that is only in comparison to the other goblins.

    Groga

The Dragon Groga, as he is known by most of those who know of him, is one of the Urulóki, or Fire-Drakes, that inhabits Middle Earth. Born sometime in the Second Age, Groga is atleast over 2500 years old - although for a Dragon, this is actually somewhat young.

Throughout the Second Age, and the early centuries of the Third Age, Groga lived in the Forodwaith, or Northern Waste, among many other dragons who inhabit and fight over that desolate and barren land. There he grew, matured, and strengthened through conflict and combat with many other Dragons, as they warred for land, treasures, or even for the sheer hell of it. By the 7th Century TA however, Groga was forced from the Forodwaith by the much larger and more aggressive dragon Smaug, whom Groga fought with. For the next several centuries, Groga would nurse his wounds and recuperate in the Grey Mountains, which would eventually become his main home.

Lost for purpose and driven by that same greed that drives the Dwarves into the Mountains and deeps of the world, Groga began to slowly, over the course of a Millennia, assemble his own treasure hoard, and to strengthen himself further. He attacked settlements, burnt villages, and stole wealth - although rather rarely. Indeed, he rarely attacked more than once or twice a century. Thus knowledge of him is brief and rare - only the most obscure works of Elvish literature mention him, and only the oldest servants of Sauron know of him. Thus Groga has amassed for himself a notable, although modest hoard, scattered across the mountain ranges of Middle Earth. Indeed, while mostly he lives in the caves and caverns of the Grey Mountains, with their watch over the Vale of Anduin, he has been sighted and seen across Middle Earth - from the Blue Mountains in the West, to the Iron Hills in the East, and everywhere inbetween.

More recently however, Groga has grown more active, and restless. He attacks villages of goblins, halfings and men at whim, and has even attacked several of the Dwarven cities dotted across his home in the Grey Mountains, during the War of the Dwarves and Dragons. Undoubtly the source of this agitation and activity is the return of Sauron, and the growing strength of his Dark Servants. Now even more than ever, Groga is driven by a insatiable lust for treasure, which may see him begin to take a greater role in the affairs of Middle Earth, as he looks greedily at the wealth of the Dwarves of Erebor, the men of Laketown, and the Elves of Rivendell and Greenwood.

Groga is known by many names by the people and races of Middle Earth, although only by the elders and learned of such nations. The most common and prevelant name is Groga though, the name given to him by the Elves. It means 'Terror' in Sindarin, and indeed it is quite accurate, for few survive an encounter with the Fire-Drake. Like other Dragons, Groga posses subtle intelligence, immense cunning, great physical strength, and the hypnotic power called "dragon-spell".

Drogen, son of Drugar, son of Drog

    Race: Dwarf
    Origin: Erebor

At the age of 60, Drogen is young, capable dwarf, eager to find adventure and fortune beyond the gates of the Lonely Mountain. He is related to Thrain II by his mother, the younger sister of the King, who he respects and sees as a father figure (his actual biological father, Drugar, perished during King Thrain's expedition into Moria).

He has lived his entire life inside Erebor, and is a skilled crafter, often found in the metal works within the city. While capable at hammering weapons and mail armor, he prefers to build more delicate artifacts such as locks and keys, using his imagination to build as complex handicrafts.

    Dwarves of the Iron Hills

The Dwarves of the Iron Hills are a hardy people, filled with wrath towards their enemies and kindness towards their allies. Their skills as craftsmen are unsurpassed, even by the Dwarves of Erebor, so gloat their craftsmen. Their wealth far greater than any of the other nations due to the Iron Hills' resources, so gloat their people. One thing, despite the bragging, remains true; the Iron Hills are one of the hardiest people of the Wilderlands.

    Dáin Ironfoot II

Dáin is the king of the Iron Hills. When his father died in the great and terrible War of the Dwarves and Orcs, Dáin, barely an adult yet, took up his wrath and slew Azog the Goblin with great wrath and fury, thus winning the war and finally avenging Durin's Kin. After the war, he took up the Kingship of the Iron Hills and retired to there, after dissuading Thraín II of trying to occupy Moria. A hardened warrior, he resides in the Iron Hills, ready to aid his allies and smite his foes.

    Thorin Stonehelm

Thorin is the son of Dáin and next in line for the rulership over the Iron Hills. He's fairly young, yet every bit as fiercesome as his father, drinking many of his fellow Dwarves under the table. He is young and seeks war, as to dampen his fiery spirit; said to be the equal of Feänor himself.

    The Dwarves of Khazad-dûm

Moria, or Khazad-dûm as it is known to the Dwarves, was once a large and powerful Dwarven city and an important center of Dwarven industry. Until the the Dwarven king Durin VI dug too deep, in search of that most precious and rare metal mithril, releasing Balrog one that would come to be known as Durin's Bane, for killing Durin VI, to the Dwarves. For years now the Dwarves have left their ancient home to this demon and an innumerable host of Goblins who "share" the decaying mines with the beast. But no more for after years of letting these gobolins have control of Khazad-dûm the Dwarves have finally sent an expedition into the mines, on intent on reclaiming this ancient homeland.

    Gloin son of Groin

A fine leader and a great warrior Gloin isthe leader of the expedition into Khazad-dûm, as such its success or failure isrests entirely on his head. Gloin is a veteran of many battles and in each one he proved his worth as a Dwarf. He is an outspoken and short-tempered Dwarf, but he is also loyal, brave, and willing to fight in the thick of battle. He is good to his friends and unrelenting to his enemies. Like all, or atleast most, Dwarves he likes the drink, treasure, battle, and honor. He has two sons both very young. He has a deep dislike of Elves, but is more excepting of men.

He is 120 years of age

    Balin son of Groin

Balin is the younger brother of Gloin, like his brother he is a heavy drinker, loyal, honorable, and tough as the mithril they come in search of. He isnt as quick tempered as his brother, but he is still unforgiving to any all all Orcs and Goblins.

    He is 110 years old

    Cædöras 250,

Cædöras (Say-door-ahs) is a young elf of the woodland realm. Though extremely young, Cædöras has made it quite the point to prove himself against Orc parties and is learning the common tongue though he can not quite speak complicated sentences. He has made a name for himself due to his prowess on the battlefield, though off it he is rash and at times arrogant. Due to his youth he is often time disregarded as naive. Though he feels like this is an injustice he does nothing but usually get himself into trouble by disregarding his elders. He has wandered the woods for a long time, the magic of the Woodland realm flows through him though he knows not how to use it. Cædöras is also known as a budding smith. When he is not Ranging, he is at the forge enhancing his craft.

Looks good, but I would make him about 200 years older. 60 is still incredibly young, seeing as Legolas is viewed as young at 700.
