    Default Training the Militia

Gaspard watches as what passes for militia in this village assemble in their practice yard, a unused crop field with two archery targets and several straw dummies for melee practice. Several young men, apparently farmhands and two old men are the apparent recruits. "This..is degrading." Gaspard thinks, annoyed he has to do this to get by for now. He holds the old spear he got from the armory.
"Alright, line up and get a stick. We'll begin with practicing on the dummies first. Once you get a stick, pick a dummy and attack it like this." Gaspard hits a fence peg with his spear, then stands over to the side to watch the Englishmen practice.

OOC : Open rp, I guess. Feel free to rp a villager.

The militia have some mediocre success in the training, although half of them miss the first strikes, one hits another with the bottom of the spear, causing an argument and for the two to be forcibly separated and put away from each other. "Not bad. Now line up and attempt to form a schiltrom." "This will likely go horribly wrong, but if it doesn't..maybe there's a chance I can actually train them to effectively defend this village."

...and it does go horribly wrong. The militia descend into infighting and arguing while Gaspard sighs. "A son of a noble lowered to training idiotic farmers in ways of defense, or attempting to." He lets the men continue their fight as he spies the local reeve approaching. "Get into formation, now!" He turns back to the men and gets them into line as the reeve approaches..

OOC : Someone want to play the Reeve?

Charles of Huntington, the revee, walked proudly with his head up high, he was moving towards the training men

How's the work doing Dumar?, I hope you are not making our men effeminate frenchies, eh?

He laughed, but as wise men say "in every joke there's a bit of true"; And this was clearly a truth. The revee hated the french, his nephew and his brother had died fighting them, and there was some wounds that only can be cured by time. But it hadn't been so long for them to close

Gaspard merely nods. "It is going well, sir. Although the men will require further organizational training. But they show promise." "I'd like to hear you say that to a french knight, not one who has to fake a smile." Gaspard thinks to himself.
