Default another problem with marian reforms...

I know there have been tons of posts on here about obtaining the Marian reformed army. I have looked through tons of forum threads, know the requirements..and I'm still confused.

It is 201 BC in my game, I own 87 settlements, and am sure I have conquered well over 90. Must I wait until 172 to get the new reforms, or should it be immediate? Many forum answers have said that you have to wait until 172, and many others have said they should be immediate. Can anyone give me a definitive answer? Thank you for your time.

There are two ways to get the reforms per the script:

    1. you must wait until at least turn 400, have a "reformer" leader, have more than 6 latifundia in Italy, and control at least 45 settlements; or

    2. you must control at least 90 settlements. There is no other requirement for this.

For AI Romans, in place of method 2 they have a 5% random chance each turn to get the reform once they control more than 20 provinces.

That's it, unless I misread the script. I usually edit out the "reformer" requirement, but the last time I did that I had a reformer anyway when the time came.

Edited to add: you must control the settlements, not just conquer them, and the reform takes a turn to go into effect IIRC. Once it happens, your factional barracks appear as damaged, but don't worry about that, they will still work and they will now produce the reformed units. Have fun!
