Constantinople, Capital of the Basileia ton Rhomaion
Constantinople, Capital of the Roman empire, heart of eastern culture, and religious capital of the orthodox world. It is a vibrant home for many different cultures and religions, and it is vastly diverse in it's citizens that choose to make their home there. It is home to the greatest works of architecture in the known world, The Hagia Sophia, The Great Aqueduct, Trajan's Column, the many Imperial Palaces... Constantinople is truly a jewel of the east ; a vibrant gem in the centre of the dusty sands of the desert.
Constantinople is the centre of a dying empire; the legacy of rome. Here, the Palailogos emperor sits in his palace, surrounded by the relentless Ottomans. They are reduced to Thracia itself, and a few minor holdings in the south of greece. The empire is decayed, with it's armed forces solely made up of mercenaries, with only a few imperial troops left in number. The empire is dead, with only a small, shining light remaining, struggling to hold on against the savage, relentless hordes of barbarians that seek to breach the Bosporus.
Nevertheless, Constantinople is one of the largest and most prosperous cities in the known world. The emperor's court is as lavish as ever, with hundreds of servants to attend His and His families every need. The Imperial Palace is vast, a true work of architecture, and it is there you should go when you seek an audience with the Basileus of Rome. For the less noble, there are many brothels, inns, and homes of ill repute in this city. Be careful though... A man could easily get lost down the winding passageways of this metropolis.
