Playing Mordor
I am playing Mordor, and was wondering is going after the ring worth it long term? Of course you get a bunch of units when you bring back and a large cash bonus, but you have to pay the high maintenance on all those exter units. You have to remember it costs a lot to get it in the first place by paying the high maintenance on a large stack of units to go after it. I think what it comes down to is a war with Dale worth it for getting the combat power of the Dark Lord? I don't believe he adds anything to your economy.

Re: Playing Mordor
It's worth it for fun. Mordor is 50 turns of moderate difficulty followed by 100+ turns of mopping up with infinite money. Sauron adds some eye candy to the later parts of the game to keep it interesting. In battles I put him in the trolls group since he is similar in speed and behavior.
Dale will not assault you if you do not share a border with them, so going to war with them is no risk.
