Default Odd problem with some files and folders

I turned on my computer this morning and noticed that one of the programs I have on my taskbar didn't have an icon, instead it just has that blank white page icon and says "Ebook Viewer" when I scroll over it. I then also noticed, more annoyingly, that my "Downloads" folder won't open. It has the same white blank page icon instead of the folder icon and when I click on it a Explorer.exe error comes up saying something like "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this task"

I ran a virus scan with Microsoft Security Essentials and it showed up nothing. Anyone have an idea what the problem could be? It's quite annoying because I've files in the Downloads folder I want to access

    I only have one hdd

Every other folder works fine, it's just the "Downloads" folder so I don't think it's the cables

Is the folder still on your harddrive? Not deleted, moved or some other strange thing?

Yeah I saw that. I tried downloading and running the .reg files and nothing happened. I haven't tried the change icon thing but would that really help?

Right-click the icon and in properties, be sure the path is correct.

    No it's not, it says:

    C:\Users\username\Links

Right click on it, and change the path to a folder on you desktop. Then right click on it, and change it back to the folder it was before. That kind of resets it, it's worked for me in the past.

Wait are we talking about the shortcut now or the actual folder? The path on the shortcut is the wrong one I posted about and I can't change it. I can't open the actual folder either though

Get the path in the shortcut right, you have a chance to open it.

Ok well at first I couldn't change it but now for some reason, the shortcut works. It brings me to the Downloads folder but their isn't anything in it and the program on my taskbar still isn't working

Ok so I've tried a few different solutions now, to no avail. Most of the solutions just seem to be about recreating the "Downloads" folder. The only reason I'm looking for a solution is to retrive all the files I've lost because I can't access the folder and I've tried all the solutions that do that and nothing has worked. I'm guessing I'm doing something wrong but I don't know what. I don't want to run a system restore because I don't want to lose all my files (plus I don't think I can because I never bothered making a back up)

It's incredibly annoying because I downloaded an exercise program over two months ago and two days after I start it, this happens and now I can't access it. The only then I've done recently on my computer that might have affect it was I took JCreator and Java from the computers in my college put it on a usb stick and put it on my computer so I could use it at home. The next day this problem occured

Ebook Viewer. Also known as Calibre. As far as I can tell at least. I think in your case we're looking past a simple lost file association and are looking at DRM management. Your following post is telling....

My line of thought - maybe by installing Java Developer Tools on your system you inadvertently tripped the DRM for your Ebook Viewer. It's not exactly a longshot but it is nowhere near a clear answer.

Try uninstalling Ebook - make sure you can reinstall it at will beforehand - and see if this solves your problem. Also remove those Java installations you installed. If this has any benefit at all let us know. Good luck!
