    Default Help changing unit stats?

    Never tried editing Empire units before but i downloaded dbeditor 1.8 and extracted files with 7-zip to access the pack files and started editing unit stats but none of my changes appear after i save them and open game. Is there something extra i need to do to get it to work or am i doing something wrong?

    your problem is, that you have no entrys in your new tables. You'd added your tsv files in your .pack but you need to import them to your new tables.

    Pengwinrex, what did you do exacly? Did you create a new pack file? If yes, did you activate this via user script or mod manager? Or did you change the vanilla files?

    I changed the vanilla one at first but that didn't work so i created a new one and i didn't know i had to activate it and i still would have no idea how. I was looking around and it said i needed to download a mod.patch file or something but all the links to it where dead. I've modded all the other total war games but I'm completely lost when it comes to Empire.

    All you need to do is open the user.empire_script.txt file witch can be found in the following path:
    C:\Documents and Settings\(Your User Name Here)\Application Data\The Creative Assembly\Empire\scripts
    there you have to add a new line witch should be looking like this: mod "yourmod.pack";
    the folder can be hidden so disable hidden folders

    Imagine for a second I'm a complete idiot. Which I'm feeling like at the moment. I opened the vanilla Empire files and opened unit stats land tables using dbeditor and clicked file then new unit stats land tables. I then went into Empire Scripts and opened the only thing in there, preferences.empire_script txt file. There where 3 pages and at the bottom i typed mod then the name of my new unit stats land tables file.

    Have i done everything right so far and now what do i do now? My new unit stats land tables now has nothing in it despite being identical to the original file earlier.

    I know I'm doing something wrong but i really don't understand what I'm meant to do instead of what I have.

    I'm clearly completely lost please help. I've been trying to do this for about a month now and I don't understand any of it look at the list of things I did and tell me what I need to do differently please even if it means starting from the beginning. I've been trying for a long time based on instructions that don't make sense with dead links to things they say I need I just want to be able to edit units.

    If you add a new table in the dbeditor you should be able to place them in a new mod file
    Otherwise there are already a lot of good tutorials how to add new units and modifying stats.
    And maybe you download a mod just for seeing how these tables were edited.

    Ok I clicked create new unit stats land tables and then clicked new pack and named it yourmod.pack. It came up with an error message saying unhandled exception and when i clicked continue nothing happened.

    Forget my last reply it was a name issue i fixed it. I did the script thing but my new unit stats land tables still has nothing in it despite now being in a new pack file called new.pack
    I went in preferences.empire_script and typed at the bottom of the last page exactly this: mod new.pack;
    What have I don't wrong this time?

    Might I suggest this tutorial to help get you started?

    Following the tutorial I created a new unit stats land tables in a new pack file and copied a unit to it, edited the size, saved it, and opened Empire. Nothing happened and there where no changes.

    The tutorial also said to load pack file manager as well as dbeditor and I did that but as far as I could tell it was only dbeditor used in the tutorial. Am I missing something here?

    I just opened pack file manager and it refuses to load unit stats land tables at all, but will load everything else as far as I can tell. Unit stats land tables is the only thing I have attempted to edit at all and the only thing in my new pack. The error message is failed to open unit stats land tables: filetypes.dbfileNotSupportedException:No applicable type definition found
    From there it goes on... I will write out the entire thing if it helps

    Is there a way to do this without downloading the .pack files? They won't run on my computer. I've got DBeditor up and running, but the unit land tables are gray, and unchangeable. I've also attached my unit land table changes to this post. I created a separate .pack file beneath the initial unit land table. I even managed to somehow change the "unchangeable" unit land table entires, however they appear highlighted in pink, and have no effect in the game.

    What's grey and unchangeable are CA tables. You have to create new ones. What's pink is what's changed in tables, but not saved yet.

    No need for PFM, you can do everything without it.

    Awesome. So do I create new ones, and replace them with the current one?

    First, you create a new table. There will be nothing at all. Then, you press ctrl+n, you'll get a new tab. Then, either you create new units (takes quite some time, you gotta set in which building it's required, which faction can recruit, etc), or simply copy-paste an existing one and change wathever you want to change. What you'll mod will overwrite vanilla data when you activate your mod - but vanilla content will still be there.
