Default Confused need interpratation re: Ioannes Paulus PP. II please......

Found this whilst browsing the web:

Last rites declaration of Ioannes Paulus PP. II (Karol Wojtyla)
    2nd April 2005

"The unforgiveable sins this earth must confront and overcome are
Nationalism, capitalism, and hoarding. The idea of every nation
should be forgot, price should be struck from the commons, and
princes should be seen for the devils they are. The sins include
our church, secret societies, and other religions which make of
the spirit of God a divide."

I was very surprised to see this, is he saying here that the church that he was the head of is at sin and that princes are devils, was he not regal, papal crowns and all the trappings of a monarch, is this a death bed rejection of all the things he represented while alive..!!

    Your views would be appreciated.

Part of the reason I left the Catholic Church was for its socialist tedancies and refusal to back the cause of human freedom.

    Now that's a curious post.
    1. The Roman Catholic Church is anything but Socialist.
    2. Socialism is the greatest proponent of human freedom, unlike capitalism, communism or fascism.

Am I incorrect in my knowledge that the Church supports all kinds of coersive social welfare programs?

Except for that whole economic freedom thing, eh.

But let us not get off topic.

It does support some, it is true (as Christ and his Apostles taught us to do), however it has a very low opinion of personal freedom.

Well Socialism takes away some economic 'freedom', but it grants a whole lot of personal and political freedom. However, capitalism enslaves people to money and strongly discourages individual thought.

I can see the formative stages of a fantastic debate here on the merits of socialism versus capitalism. Perhaps you'd like to start one up in the Political Mudpit, Zenith Darksea or Big War Bird? As it stands, let's try to stay on topic, and confine responses to this particular question. Thanks!

There have been 265 Popes including the fisherman Peter filling these shoes, and certainly all of them have not been good men or true practitioners of the doctrines of Jesus, the history of the papacy is riddled with various demagogues and despot’s and to say the least controversial figures, the latest of course is the present Pope’s membership of the ‘Hitler Youth’ party.
But what puzzles me is the apparent change of mind of the last Pope John Paul 2, is this a death bed confession of all that the Roman Catholic Church is not what it should be, he of course had been in a position to know. It seems to me that he had been a loyal supporter of everything that the church extolled during his time as Pope, very curious...!

The Church has slowly been moving in the direction John Paul II described. Its not what you think it is though. Its a fairly simple call for the Church(es of the world) to, more or less, gain powerful sway and influence over the entire world such that people identify more with universal spiritual ideals(not nescessarilly those of the Catholic Church even). It has less to do with Catholocism and more to do with John Paul II's philosophy of Personalism.

Given any number of random, even contradictory metaphysical postulates, a justification, however absurd, can be logically developed.

Theoretically - in practicality Socialism on any large scale has just resulted in autocracy, the social upheaval required generates a power void which is filled by strongmen.

However, capitalism enslaves people to money and strongly discourages individual thought.
Does it? In what way? We're all dependent on currency in a socialist or capitalist society, and in what way does a capitalist society discourage individual thought particularly?
