Re: difficulties
I play on VH campaign difficulty: it gives sizable cash bonuses to the AI side and the player's economy seems a tad handicapped compared to Medium campaign difficulty. Other than that, VH, I think, gives more aggressive rebels. The AI also seems go have a foamed-mouth rage syndrome against the player. So do not expect any alliances to hold (for long). This is not set in stone though. Playing as Epiros, I've managed to have peaceful relations with several of my neighbors (Getai and KH in particular). Not sure what exactly affects that. I guess, my sizable garrisons in the provinces that border Getai and KH deters the AI from attacking. Getai have marched a few stacks into my border provinces and then, marched them straight out. They've been doing that for decades now. One thing that seems to affect AI's "rage" is forts. If one has a fort in a territory that the AI wants to pass through: they almost always attack. If there is no fort: they frequently pass through peacefully.
On VH, the AI also tends to hire any mercs it can get its hands on. So, expect many stacks coming your way. Other than that, H and M campaign difficulties tend to turn into "very easy" campaigns very soon but some folks suggest those difficulties if someone is playing a single-starting province faction.
