    Default Xbox 360 problem

Well I suppose I could go posting in other forums more specific to my question, but I'm to lazy..

This is more of a confirmation rather than a question and since the TWC community is made up of many different backgrounds, I figured someone could answer it (or try too).

I am trying to hook my xbox 360 to my computer which is connected to the internet via wireless. I have searched through different forums and have found that many say that you need a cross-over cable rather than the ethernet cable to connect the 360 to a pc. Is this true?

I have also heard that you can buy a hub.. connect one end of an ethernet cable to the hub and the other to the xbox. Then, connect another ethernet cable to the hub and send the other end to the pc.

    basically:

    pc-ethernet-hub-ethernet-xbox360

You connect your XBOC 360 to your ethernet home-network just like you would do with any other PC. You should just use the ethernet cable.

Well I wish it was that easy for me. Whenever I just plug the ethernet cable into the back of computer and the other end in the back of the xbox, I get a little or no connectivity error in the lan settings...

I was told that the ethernet cable is supposed to plug in directly into the cable modem and you use a cross-over cable to connect the xbox to the computer.

Are you using a router for your home-network? Is your home-network wired or wireless?

My home network is wireless. My computer is connected to a router via wireless connection. It is a microsoft base station that I am connected to.

Oh so you're on a wireless connection. Well then in that case, shouldn't you buy the Xbox 360 wireless adapter?

then you cant have internet travel wireless to a comp then have the comp send it to the xbox... i dont think that can be done... maybe just buy another wireless internet reciever and hook it in the usb on the xbox 360...

That's why I have a wired home network.

In reality, you get the best performance if you connect your 360 to a wired network.

it should work.... whats the difference between a regular comp internet reciever and the 360 wireless reciever??

i dont think they're that different.... plus if microsoft designed the 360 to have usb just for their controllers and their wireless reciever is kinda stupid... imho

Well I do, but the tv is in another room with the router... I actually got the xbox live working the other day but I had to drag the xbox into the other room and directly connect the ethernet cable into the router..it somehow worked...

My wireless USB adapter for my computer fits into the xbox USB, but I see no power lights on, also the test connection thing for xbox live fails...

Do you have a router to which you can directly connect your 360 via an ethernet cable?

I only have that one router....problem could be easily solved if only I would go out and buy like a 100 ft ethernet cable, run it from my room (xbox360) into my dad's office (router)...but that is so lame and such an eyesore.... plus I'm leaving for college in 2 weeks...

Then you might as well buy the 360 adapter. The reviews say it's pretty good.
