Winnetou

Has anyone here heard of Winnetou, Carl May's classic and romantic portrayal of the Wild West. As a kid, I belonged to the second generation which was utterly fascinated by the films adapted from the book series. It was as cliche and naive as it gets and it shows that the author is a European romantic who didn't even whiff anything remote to the real wild west. Despite that, he was hugely popular during his lifetime and is still to this day.

Those movies are a great part of the popular culture in Slovakia and I am sure in surrounding countries as well. It is comperable to Star Wars of Europe. That's how grand it is (or seems to be).

Anyone else is a fan?

Has noone really heard of Winnetou. No Europeans or Americans. The movie series was simply awesome.

i used to read Karl May when i was a kid and back than it was cool. and about the movie are you talking about the ones with Goiko Mitic?

I am talking about Lex Barker and Pierre Brice movies. There is like a dozen of 'em. I don't know the guy you mentioned.

well these are old East Germany movies and this serbian guy Goiko Mitic plays Winetu. i used to read Karl May in class when i was like 10 and got kicked out of the room several times, but it surely was more interesting than algebra

These are West German movies in cooperation with French, Italians, and Yugoslavia. Pierre Brice played Winnetou.

I am not sure which Winnetou you are talking about. I know only one starring Brice as Winnetou.
