    Icon5 Selling a old desktop........

I like to sell my old desktop. Here is what I can remember about it:

    Dell Dimension 3000
    2 Gig of Ram
    2.8 GHZ
    80 GB Hard Drive
    256 MB Video Card (Radeon)

It cost me $759 dollars in December of 2004 and I put around $300 into it with RAM and the video card. So, make it $1,059.

Now, I like to sell it to my buddy if I do decide to ditch it and if he wants it. I like to get $500 dollars for it, or at least $200-$300 for it. But I don't know want to ask for it?

Going rate on Ebay is ~$80 for similar specs. Pentium 4 systems aren't worth alot.

I am afraid it is not a joke. I can reformat it and have it run almost like new. The guy wants a comp anyhow, so.....

I pick better computers than this out of the dumpster.

    And I'm not joking.

Meh. It was good enough at the time and I didn't have money to build my own so that's why I got it .

You got to bear in mind pc components double in power every two years (roughly). eight years have passed so theoretically pc components are now about 2^4 (16) times more powerful than when you bought it. For 400 dollars somebody could build a new pc at least 8 times faster than that pc. Its worth very little.

It's a doorstop now I'm afraid, they are worse than cars for depreciation. Do your friend a favour, get his real budget and then ask on here for the best PC for his budget, it will easily outstrip your old one and he isn't going to be too happy with you down the road if he finds out you sold him an old rubbish PC for way over the odds is he?

Look at it this way, on amazon uk site now:

    2GB RAM - £12.35
    WD 80GB internal - £50
    256mb video card - £28
    Asus motherboard - £50

so £150 = $238 - and that is not checking for best prices and components that fit. Shopping around would easily knock that price down and as Hedge Knight says, doubling that to the $500 you would get a way better machine.

Sell it as a vintage piece
I read this so called Bible, and found it to be a third rate story in which this so called 'jesus' is nothing more than a shameless lampooning of Brian, which has inspired joy and laughter in millions.

But it's still in good condititon, so I hate to "recycle" it as e-waste and see it go to China just yet for the landfills. If he can use it for 1-3 years more, why not?

Why not just gift it to him? Make it his Christmas present if nothing else would seem fair.

A best suggestion I have seen so far. +rep
American, French, Israeli and British government's ILLEGAL aggression against the Syrian people, without any proof for chemical attacks in Douma, and without waiting for OPCW to conduct their investigation..
Sons of *******, leave that poor, war torn country in peace.
If you are a citizen of one of these countries, then DO NOT ask any help from me on these forums, since, in protest against this aggression by your governments, I do not provide assistance/help anymore.
Let Syria be finally in peace.

A video of false chemical attack in Douma, Syria, which led to Western illegal attacks.
