    Default Peace with the Dead

There is a known bug with the RTW engine that means you remain at war with a faction that is destroyed but was still at war with you when it was destroyed. Apparently this affects your relationships with living factions, e.g. a living faction still allied to the dead faction will not ally with you (I think that's how it works - I am bit hazy on the effects). But that is the Peace with the Dead bug.

I tried a nasty cut and paste hack with the Peace with the Dead script from other games but to no avail (I am and always will be a crap programmer). Such a script basically makes peace with the dead factions that are still at war with you.

However, I just wanted to let you know of a work around using the Force Diplomacy mod. If you briefly force an existing ally of the dead faction to be your protectorate then the dead faction will declare itself to be at peace with you. Perhaps there are other variations of this, e.g. merely starting a fake war with the living faction (that is allied to the dead faction) and then declaring peace might trigger peace with the dead faction.

    That's it.

NB: Of course you need to be aware of the dead factions allies at the time of its demise, which means consulting the Diplomacy tab whenever you think an enemy faction is about to die.

Interesting. Can't say I've noticed the bug, but this seems useful. Thanks.

You're welcome and apologies for the verbose description of the bug - brain dead when I originally wrote it and cba to retype.
