'Free speech' row after man is ARRESTED for posting image of a burning Poppy on his Facebook page on Remembrance Sunday
Man named locally as Linford House, 19, from Kent was arrested on suspicion of an offence under the Malicious Communications Act

Man almost killed by mob for gate crashing the mourning

So what do you think should this moron be arrested for burning a poppy?Should people be made respect a poppy when many have been the victim of colonial rule and oppression in the USA,Australia,India,Africa.Should the Islamists be told to stop protesting about wars in Muslim country's.Last year, Police in Northern Ireland arrested a number of people after a picture of two youths burning a poppy was posted on Facebook.
And Emdadur Choudhury, a member of Muslims Against Crusades (MAC), was found guilty of using threatening or abusive words or behaviour, after he burned replica poppies during a two-minute silence on Remembrance Day in 2010.
The maximum fine possible was £1,000, plus legal costs, yet he was fined only £50, plus a £15 victim surcharge.
A second man was cleared of the same offence due to 'lack of evidence'.Should free speech allow them to do this as it would in the USA or is Britain a more restrictive society. Is it insulting to the Queens army and therefore a crime against the crown almost like treason. If treason it is off with their heads.

I think that if this man cannot respect the fallen who died at least in part on his behalf then he really shouldn't be a member of society at all, it saddens me really to see that kind of behaviour :/

The guy is English so double shame on him.The EDL have ordered a hit on him.
Previous incidents of poppy burning have seen defendants mount a defence of freedom of expression based on European human rights laws.
Is it against his human right to stop him burning something in his own home?

It's Britain man... They'll arrest you for anything over there... Next time I visit... (that is if I ever visit again)... I'll make sure not to scratch my ass in public because I wouldn't want it to be seen as a gesture offensive to homosexuals and end up in prison for a hate crime.

Daily Fail reporting. Why this rag feels the need every year to give space to a minority of morons engaged in irrelevant poppy burning protests god only knows. Oh and Tom, please try and keep your own thread on topic.

The fact that someone would burn a poppy isnt that bad, its the fact that he did it on remembrance day and then post it on facebook. You couldn't get more offensive than that really, why are people complaining that this is wrong to arrest him?

Not hard really to be clver about these things.
Hardly. The Koran represents slavery, violence, and death. The poppy represents a hope for peace in a war torn world. It's a memento mori.

The Koran is a religious book that gets people upset if they deface it, whether it represents bad things is another argument which can include many other religions too.

The fact is the police/government in this country have made it a policy to point out to the public that offending the majority is not ok and you can find yourself locked up for it. As long as the police don't get too trigger happy I am fine with it.

So, if people decide that certain political parties in the UK are offensive, I'll assume they're going to be banned as well? And then offensive books will be banned?

    Yes, people get upset.

You're violating a handful of universal human right declarations if that's your policy.

The only reasons to arrest someone for what they say if it's a threat or for their own protection.

No one is complaining but in the article it says some people are going to the court of human rights. To have the freedom to express their view on soldiers.

Just because it is offensive it doesn't mean it morally justifiable to arrest someone for what they did. It's exactly the same thing for drawing pictures of Mohammed or burning the Koran, or railing against Jesus, whatever. The person on the skateboard disturbed the public peace, which is an illegal and understandable offence, but the guy on Facebook is just ridiculous and is just Orwellian.
    Rest in peace, Calvin.

Somebody posting a burning poppy on their Facebook... it's disgusting but I feel that arresting them for that is a little over the top.
The problem with policing social networking sites is that the youth these days are completely irresponsible and have no respect at all (mostly) and because they've had it so well and have no idea how the world works at all.
Unfortunately, I got in an argument with a girl yesterday for saying disgusting things about the soldiers who gave their lives and she dared to use the excuse that she has Irish roots somewhere in her family! Keeping in mind, she's a university student from a middle-class English family down south. I told her that, as an Irishman, I'm embarrassed that people would associate her with me.

The prick disrupting the parade? Yeah. He should be arrested, even if he's only held overnight. Quite frankly, he deserves a good beating.
When his pathetic actions are directly affecting those around him, I don't see anything wrong with him being punished.

There's nothing wrong with defacing any symbol if you live in a free country. Either Britishers agree that arresting someone for burning a poppy is itself a crime, or they accept that they don't live in a free country.
