    Default House Rules

So, if i understand correctly, "house rules" represent the rules you impose on yourself to make the game more realistic or harder or both.

I think there is already somewhere a guide named "how to become a true Roman".

What i 'd like to hear is if some of you use or create those kind of rules and for which faction (or for all of them).

For example, the only thing i do is use a general for every army and never a captain. But ofc this is not enough, and i find playing with the big factions easy.

So, f you have some ideas that will make the game more challenging, i 'd like to hear 'em.

P.S. I see there was already a thread for it http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...ht=house+rules

If a moderator wants, he can merge those two threads and we can continue from there. Sorry, my bad.

P.S.2 But until then, we could hear if there are some new ideas

I don't think my sytle has had much changes since the last thread. I did start a KH and an Epeiros campaign and I play both of them more chaotically, which means I don't eliminate foes but fight defensive battles instead, all in the purpose of not growing too quickly and turning the game boring. I did that in my Makedonian campaign (destroyed both KH and Epeiros in a matter of years) and it turned too easy to be enjoyable.

In my current KH campaign I'm at war with Makedonia, Rome and Seleucids at the same time and I'm still mostly on Hoplitai Haploi (the force that is marching against the Romans has Classical and Syracusan Hoplites). I didn't really plan to go to was against the Seleucids but Pergamon revolted to me as did Emporion. I lost Emporion to Carthage but I managed to keep Pergamon and took Hallikarnasos as well.

Playing chaotically is a lot more fun that simply spreading like a map disease. It means losing cities and retaking them.

My rules for Seleukids, I just sort of went along a mental note never put them in print before, so I might add to them later if I play a campaign.
    • A Strategos for each Satrapy
    • Keep the core of the dynasty Makedonian
    • Allow local Satraps in the eastern Satrapys
      • A satrap can only campaign against local threats
      • The Basileus must lead the Royal army on campaign against large foreign threats
      • Therefore only one full stack of 'Royal army' only
      • No destroying of enemies, or expanding ahistorically
      • No reloading battles if defeated
      • No time travel on campaign map- don't go back to an earlier save- unless CTD
      • The capitol moves to where the Basilieus is- this helps to simulate revolts that occured when family members or Startegos of satrap knew Basileus was away on campaign
      • If a Strategos (Satrap) loses his army- cannot take troops from neibouring Satrap, must wait for the Basileus or a high ranking family member

I'm pretty sure I have others just cannot think of them off hand

I'm intrigued by the last two suggestions, Antiochos. Moving capitol is a great way of simulating reach of royal authority. I will use that in the first campaign with a royalty-based civilization I play. Might as well start a Seleucid campaign - I think it's the only one I haven't tried yet (apart from Arverni and Sweboz), probably because I usually play against them and they regularly piss me off.

How about a Fight Club house rule?
Rules of House Rules. 1st RULE: You do not talk about House Rules. 2nd RULE: You DO NOT talk about House Rules. 3rd RULE: When the army routs the fight is over. 4th RULE: Only two armies to a fight. 5th RULE: One battle at a time. 6th RULE: Shirts optional, shoes recommended. 7th RULE: Battles will go on as long as they have to. 8th RULE: If this is your first night at House Rules, you HAVE to battle.

No my primary house rule is to not let the Romani get conquered. This is not usually a problem considering their inherent badassery. They are the Tyler Durden of EB, so I rarely seem Rome suffering. I always spare a city when conquering their holdings and let them be and will even try to hold off other factions from attacking and destroying them. I just like to know that the Romani are still around, even if they are in Gaul or Illyria.

Those are some good house rules, Antiochos. Might as well go add them into the thread.
