Default We are not planning TGW for Shogun 2/FOTS

I was wondering if The Great War team has any plans to make a WWI mod for Shogun 2 after they're done with Napoleon. Shogun 2/FOTS has a lot more to offer for a WWI mod over Napoleon. The Naval strikes are a big thing, as there was lots of coastal bombardments back in WWI, and you could possibly retool them into airstrikes if you research the correct technology. The fortress walls in FOTS look pretty trench like, if you could find a way to "sink" them, they could be excellent as trenches. And since the navies on FOTS are a lot closer to the 20th century than the ships in Napoleon, it'd be easier to turn them into dreadnoughts/destroyers. While I can see some difficulties with modding Shogun 2, like all the Asian architecture, and the map (although we should be able to change it soon if this thread bares any fruit), however, the end result would be amazing.

We don't. If there are people willing to take on the work of recreating the mod, then we could discuss of course, as there's a lot of content that should be transferable.

If I can familiarize myself with modding some more than I'd be happy to do that.

I really hope you reconsider your position and use S2 for this amasing mod.
I know that the maine problem would the construction from zero of the map ,towns ,etc.
But if ,for example, the TATW guys have done it ,with custom towns ,etc you would do it to .

If you're talking about third age total war, i think that there is a quite a difference between creating a Medieval II campaign map and a NTW campaign map.

I'll wait for some time to see how much the modders can milk out of the Assembly Kit.

Do you know if it's possible to import new models to it yet?

Someone put a Maxim MG on Steam Workshop.

Couple reasons why its good idea to port it:
-Modding tools, once ported, its easier to work with mod
-Fall of Samurai has improved rifles, as its closer to WW1 than any other game/expansion
-Units wont shoot if friendlies are on their way, extremly useful with bigger units sizes/more spread formations of this mod
    -Improved AI???
-Wonderful naval warfare, kind of close WW1 naval battles.
Apologies for anyone who's message i may miss or not be able to answer

Apart from that, the trench system would work much, much better in FotS. I've played on a user-created map with trenches (from the Steam workshop), where trenches function really well. Riflemen will kneel down in these trenches and take fewer losses.

FotS has all the starting material for a good WW1 mod. The ships, the artillery, the combat mechanics etc. And I really hope that someone will be realizing a WW1 mod at some point.

    Yeah but a european campaign?
impossible to create by yourself... so NTW is much better to mod for a WW1 mod, Total War without campaign, isn't real total war for me ... :/

I'd rather people who are interested in making a port wait until Rome 2

You can actually. Map editing is a possibility thanks to the modding kit. New buildings, voices, agents and other things may be harder to do, but they're doable.

It'd be harder because Rome 2 probably doesn't have guns.

...Sir, Does that means The Team are readily willing to give Permission for any enterprising Modders, who want to implement any elements of The Mod into FoTS?

I sent a PM to King Sama about it, he said he's willing to provide resources to anybody who wants to.

*Ahem* No, I didn't Looking back over the pm, you might have been confused when I said: "... You can transfer pretty much everything except for the db and the startpos. ..." I meant "you" generically, as in it is possible to do so, rather than you will personally be able to do so.

Consider this first post as official until further deliberation, which would likely only occur after an outside proposal:

B-DizL has proven himself very generous in offering his model work to others after 5.0 release (note the TWTEAW mod for etw). I can't speak for him or the rest of the team, but should there be a well-planned and well-supported effort be in place, with significant progress to show, then I'd say there's a strong possibility of content transfer or a project integration.

I suppose this topic is would be the best place to note that I had a mod idea for Fall of the Samurai. Now I don't know the first thing about modding and have no motivation to start putting my mod idea into practice (hence why it would remain just an idea) so I am only asking for the sake of asking but here it goes: do you guys know how easy it would be to transfer the mechanics of tanks in this mod to one in FotS?

You'd have to ignore the entire political aspect though, as Japanese feudal clans do not exactly work like modern republics or monarchies of the western world.
Besides that, the combat system would indeed be more appropriate. The only problem is that it's still being reliant on linear formations like other TW games, something which had already disappeared by the turn of the 20th century.

However doing a proper WW1 mod for FOTS would require an enormous amount of work, a lot of time and a rather big mod team. In contrast the N:TW mod is already quite polished and advanced in development. By the time anything decent is made for FOTS we'll already have the next TW game on the market.
