    Default [WIP] Proposal: A New World.

    A colonial RPG set in 1650, players take on the role of the British colonists and their struggle for survival. Players can shape the fate of the Colonies by forging their own destiny.

    Forum Structure:

    The New World - Main forum. "A Colonial RPG set in the 17th century, where the British Colonials enact their daily struggle for survival. Influence America in your own way, and decide the fate of the colonies."
    The Colonial Goverment - The Political centre of the colonies.
    The City of Boston - The commercial and religious centre of the colonies.
    The Residences - the home threads
    The Frontier - The main role-playing forum
    Fields of Glory - Battle Threads.
    The Grand Archives - The Archives.

    Map of the Colonies:

    Red = English
    Yellow = Spanish
    Purple = Dutch
    Green = French
    Brown = Natives

    Pay no attention to greenland in the corner :

    Colonial Government

    The colonies require governors to manage a certain colony. These Governors oversee the colony and sit on the governors council. They are responsible for maintaining the Colonies' militia, taxes, and budget to make sure it goes into the colonial treasury. Governors are appointed by royal decree; but to represent this in game the people who want to apply for governor shall be entered into a lottery. The winner of this lottery shall serve as governor for life, then a new one is appointed.

    The current colonies britain owns are:

    1) Jamestown (Virginia and Maryland at this point)
    2) Boston (Massachusetts, Plymouth, New Haven, Rhode Island and Connecticut being part of it at this time).

    Two Governors and a Governor General are selected by lots. The governors sit on the governors council in Boston, with their own apoointed deputy governor who manage the province in their absence. The Governor General makes sure all the provinces are in order and anyone who mismanaged it is to have their powers revoked. The Governor General can veto any decision put forth by either council, and all officers serve for life.

    The rest of the players (who shall be roleplayed as elected citizens) sit on the assembly. They make the decisions on the tax, the militia, and the budget that the colonial military receives, but any law they pass has to be approved by the governors council. They also decide the foreign policy towards the natives, whereas Britain itself must manage any attack on foreign nations.

    When a Governor dies, lots are drawn from the players to select a new one. Players who are not Governors do not have to sit on the assembly and can instead can choose their own path.

    One of the responsibilities of the Colonial Government is to promote people into military positions. The Governor General has the final verdict on when they are to be promoted or not, and the fastest way to get noticed is to send in a commission. Often, people are elected by the assembly to serve in military positions, but these men still have to be approved by the Governor's council and the Governor general.

    These are the ranks and the bonuses:

    Deputy Governor: £500 bonus to income, acts as governor in the governors absence.
    Colonial Governor: £2000 bonus to income, authorized to lead the militia forces of his colony, levy taxes, and expand the colonies infrastructure.
    Governor General: £3000 bonus to income. Authorized to lead the colonial armies as "acting captain general" in the absence of a commander. Decides the Colonies' foreign policy against the natives, the tax set on the colonies, and making sure the colonies have a standing army that is kept intact. Is authorized to spend the colonial treasury on the colonies. Can make diplomatic agreements on behalf of the colonies.

    Incomes and Starting Funds

    Each player starts the game with £15,000 and makes a base income of £2500. This money can be spent on anything you desire, although it would probably be most beneficial to use it to boost your income by buying plantations and slaves, chartering ships to trade, and investing in long term money boosts. Working in the Military also gives you a small salary. The income from these investments determines on the quantity, and it is also listed in the shop thread.

    Military

    Each character starts in the military as a Colonel, and they have the ability to recruit their own private regiment to serve in times of war. The best way to get promoted is to earn a few victories in one of the many native or foreign invasions to earn the attention of the assembly, and then send them a commission or a dispatch that recommends you for promotion. Regiments are made up of 1500 men.

    here is a list of the military ranks and bonuses:

    Colonel: The ability to recruit a private regiment.
    Brigadier: £500 extra salary, the ability to recruit three private regiments. Holds command over three Colonels and their respective regiments.
    Sergeant Major General: £1000 extra salary, the ability to recruit 4 private regiments. Holds command over army organization, supply, forming the army for battle and the march.
    Lieutenant General: £1500 extra salary, the ability to recruit 5 private regiments. Often led the army in the absence of the Captain General as he had duties elsewhere.
    Captain General: £2500 extra salary, the ability to recruit 6 private regiments. The head of the whole army, he was often a colonial governor, and thus often left the commanding to his subordinates but took the actual credit.

    No, you will be able to play as other races besides Native Americans. Just the primary ethnicity will be British.

    I actually meant if you could play as, for example, the governor of Cuba, or Florida? or are we just focusing in British settlements?

    It will be drastically overwhelming to play everything, seeing as how it is already very difficult to fill up a game with maximum amount of players...
    A small region, where we're all fairly close would make more sense for any RPG. You could be in Cuba, I could be in Quebec, Lucius could be in Virginia, Gandalf in Brazil.. (sic)

    That's FAR too broad to play with a handful of players. It makes more sense that we're all one or the other (ideally not Spanish considering the size of their land), but instead Brits, in the same general area, with the same general cause.

    Just makes more sense that way to me. Keep in mind we're in 1650, there's going to be no visiting Florida from Brazil without a 3 month journey for example

    Edit: That all being said, I would be more for 1754-63, 1775-1783, or 1861-1865 eras to be honest (if you understand these numbers, then you can guess what I'm insinuating)

    Oh! We will be playing in both the Virginia and Boston Colonies, but we may just narrow it down to the Boston colony.

    Gunboats with 30 guns? First rates had 100 or so. Gunboats 1-4 and 4 is hugely pushing it

    I have explained this to you already. If your just going to criticise us, go back to your own attempt at an RPG.

    Yes. I hope this 1650 RPG works, I will play it for sure. But I just think the other 3 eras are vastly more interesting and eventful (means playing French vs. British, and Natives could play both sides in the French Indian War. Brits vs. Americans, with support of natives (can play both sides), even Germans.

    And well the American Civil War is selfexplanatory, but I would undoubtedly, and 150% play a Confederate by the name of Haytham (Insert Southern Surname), a Texan graduate of West Point, caught between his duty to America, and his staunchly separatist family, which owns over 3,000 slaves in Central Texas, that operate the ranches. Oh I've thought of it many times

    He's kind of torn, like Robert Lee, except where they differ is that Haytham is indifferent towards slavery and believes it a necessary "evil" for the continued success of Texas, and other Southern economies, whereas Robert Lee believes it to be an abomination.

    Just some ideas to consider for the future,but lets get this 1650 one underway.

    The original idea was French and Indian War, but there is a greater war going on at this time for Britain: The Third English Civil War. We start in the year before it ends, so the Protectorate and the Commonwealth will be established till 1660 when Charles II comes to power and the Act of Union is signed. So for the first year, we are on our own and may be on our own for awhile.
