37 Views and no one has any idea of a place to start or where to point me?

Check out Daniu's tutorial in Tools, Tutorials and Resources. You also might want to download the Assembly Kit or PFM lol. For changing unit stats edit unit_stats_land. For changing Abilities, just edit unit_to_unit_abilities. And then you need to extract those files with BOB if you are using the assembly kit. Most learning comes from trial and error though.

And oh, the best way to start, is by peeking into existing mods...reverse enginer them, make sense on how they works. Read Tutorials in Mod Sections, some ETW and NTW techniques still apply; and if you still not sure, you can ask the creator of the mod...

Will I be able to add abilities from other total war series for instance the spearmen in the FOTS if I want them to be able to do the wall of spears or the box formation that they are able to do in the earlier games can I copy that information and import it in to my campaigns?

Hm? Spearwall and Square Formation? Sure you do. Shogun2 and FoTS IS a single game.

No the I am going to mess these spellings up really bad which is why I chose the other words, The Ashrirugu or whatever we call those spear men used to have an ability where their formation got really tight defensively so I called it a spear wall because thats what it looked like and then they used to counter the cavalry rushes by busting into a squared formation this might even be from Napoleon but it was neat abilities and I liked that even the lowest of soilders had an ability and how you used them was key to doing well,

For a better understanding, lets learn from a existing mod, shall we? For instance...Radious Units Mod. Open it with PFM, look at its db>unit_to_unit_ability table. Studying other ability related tables shall help.

You'll get it by yourselves, trust me.

Just download and run Assembly kit and open each and every files included in the raw_data folder using DAVe. It's easy to understand what each column represents.
