Rocking PC, but still have LAG/FPS issues with Darthmod Shogun 2

Howdy, in case this is in the wrong area, let me know and I'll move it (I couldn't find a tech area for DMS2).

As my dxdiag below will show, my rig is pretty damn sweet, however I've noticed that I still can't play a full sized battle (unit/graphic options for DMS2 set to max) without serious graphical issues. I recently upgraded from a GTX 590, to a GTX 690 because I thought I'd just bowl over my issues with raw power, however I've seen very little improvement.

Even with my hardware, is playing a lag free battle at around 30-40fps with all settings set to Ultra/Max, outside of my capabilites? Or are there a few tweeks in either an ini. file or in the nVidia control panel that I can take advantage of, or anything else anyone can think of?

Also, I don't mind overclocking my CPU even more than I already have, or even my GPU. However I honestly thought that I wouldn't have to go any higher.

This game is still XP, 32bit based of which means it only uses one core of your i7 100% of the time, any other core at anytime, maybe on a ggod day.

Thanks for pointing me towards that post irishron, do you have any other advice or tweeks that could help me squeeze out a few more FPS? I don't suppose LAA or anything would be of any use eh?

Also, what settings take up the most CPU usage, but not GPU? I would think that Shadows, AA and such were dependant on the GPU, so are some of the only settings that I can lower for a FPS boost from the CPU things like unit size and such?

lower shadows or turn them off and try again, granted funs fine here. another option disable SLI see what that does for you,

no matter WHAT you do CPU will = minium fps two gpus wont fix that, so disabling SLI in the NVIDIA profiles for Shogun 2 might smooth things out I cant tell for sure dont have a 690 to play with.

With Empire for example I could play the vanilla game up max and have no issues, but the certain mods the game begins to lagg, its obvious that the problem lies with the mods not being optimised.

Essentially all Darthmods raise the unit size by default and thus reduce performance to an extent. If that causes problems, u can usually reduce the unit size and get your performance back. Other mods which might impact performance are all smoke/explosion mods. In that case, it often depends on the graphics card model whether you will see a bigger performance hit or not.

@OP
In most situations, the minimum framerate in S2 is limited by single core CPU performance. Therefore, the best way to improve performance is to overclock the CPU as much as reasonably possible. With a 2700K, 4.5-4.7Ghz should be fine imho (assuming that you have a proper CPU cooler). With a SLI/CF configuration it's always possible that it is causing some trouble. To exclude that possibility, I would check performance with SLI enabled- and disabled using a zoomed out (because that's much less CPU intensive) battlefield perspective.
