I will confess that I am mildly curious about this film. I would much prefer to see a movie about von Richtofen's Flying Circus or Les Cigognes (which had the highest-scoring Allied ace), but this looks like it will do.

I can't tell if they're flying Spads or Nieuports, but my guess would be Nieuports. Aside from the obligatory love story, I think I'll like this.

I agree. If they're going to make a WW1 movie, they should focus on the brave men who fought in the infamous trench warfare. "Flyboys" looks interesting and I'll probably see it sometime in the future.

I thought "The Lost Battalion" was a great WW1 movie.
Hell yeah. That movie was really good, definitely one of my favorite war movies. My favorite WWI movie of all time is the original "All Quiet on the Western Front" (1930). That movie is truly a masterpiece and I really hope some producers will make something similar in the future but focus on the French point of view. "Un long dimanche de fiançailles" or "A Very Long Engagement" was a letdown. It was a good movie overall but I was expecting it to show a lot more trench warfare.

I saw the preview for it in the theaters. I'd also much prefer an Infantry story.
They make it look like it's a WW2 dogfight movie using bi-planes.

Those planes seem to be remarkably nimble for canvas and plywood biplanes. Regardless, you do get to see some infantry charges in no man's land.

These fighters were very nimble in reality, just not very fast. And they're definitely Nieuports.
I'm looking forward to this. Just a pity it's from an American perspective yet again.

Has anyone seen "A Very Long Engagement"? Easily the best WW1 movie to come out in recent years. It's in French, but a great flick.

I've seen that. Pretty good battle scenes, but abit too romantic IMO, should have focused more on the infantry experience. Though it probably is one of the best First World War movies because there's so few of them.

I liked that movie, the battle scenes were top-notch with no pussyfooting about honor and bravery. And it was funny sometimes too.

As for this, it looks like utter complete crap. WWI planes trying to do what they do there would probably have snapped in half and there would NEVER have been that many airplanes going head-to-head at the same time (they never made all that many airplanes in WWI). Not to mention the ridiculous portrayal of all German airplanes being red Fokker Dr.I's, considering the Dr.I was actually inferior to allied planes, prone to accidents, crashing and even breaking apart in mid air, not to mention airplanes were generally only painted like that by respected aces with enough skill not to care that you could see their plane from a mile away. This film suggests the entire German air force are aces flying inferior airplanes, only one of which was painted solid red, and no doubt the German pilots will fly like complete dolts as well.

Besides, by the time the Fokker Dr.I entered service the Lafayette Escadrille wasn't, to my knowledge, seeing much action anyway. Why, WHY can't film makers look into history for their story instead of pulling some popularized sugar-coated trollop out of their backsides?

I still have to give them some credit for at least making a WWI movie, though. They're disgustingly rare. I want more. I want accurate, real WWI films that show the stupidity and pointlessness of the entire war. WWI action will be exciting and heart-wrenching enough without throwing in some flashy maneuvers which would get a WWI pilot killed.

Well of course the movie looks like crap, but James Franco!? If you know anything about me, you know my love for him. DANG. I am going to see this one in theature about 5 times. I thought he looked good in Annapolis, but this? Holy moly. He's my hero.

Well, in my opinion the best WW1 film of all time is Paths of Glory, with Kirk Douglas. For an older movie, it's simply astounding. Of course there's All Quiet on the Western from (the first one), which is also excellent.
