Need help finding error log

I spent a while making lots of changes throughout my SS folder, and very stupidly, I did not test in between to make sure there were no crashes. So of course, when I start up the game it crashes. But ever since I started playing Medieval 2 through Steam, I noticed that I never get an error log. Is it possible that it gets generated somewhere else? I tried checking the VirtualStore with no luck.

Edit: Well, I was finally able to figure out what was causing the crash. Some stupid syntax error. But I would still like to know how to use the error log with Steam if anyone knows.

Yeah, I realized that for some reason, the error log is being generated in the main Medieval 2 folder. I have it set as

[log]
to=mods/americas/system.log.txt
level=* error

But it's being sent to Medieval II Total War/system.log.txt
