Default Help hellas1 build a new rig!

    Hi everyone,

I have a 6 yr old system and am concerned that it'll die on me so I'm trying to be proactive and buy a new computer before that happens. It's going to be used for gaming and office/business based use (Aka Microsoft Office, Autocad, etc.):

My budget is approx. $1200-$1700 so please feel free to let me know if more $$ is needed for good parts with fast speeds.

    Here are my current specs:

    Win 7 professional

Intel 2.4 ghz core 2 quad processor

8GB RAM...I forget the speed but it works for me

Nvidia 260 GTX overclocked out of the box

    C drive: 300 GB & D drive: 300 GB.........

    One HP lightscribe DVD player/burner

SyncMaster 914v 17" non-wide screen monitor (Thin, not bulky like circa '90)

    2 Benwin cheapo speakers

    Logitech keyboard & mouse

Now, I'm trying to get the following for my new system:

    Win 8 professional

    I7 processor with fast speed

    10GB of fast RAM also

    1TB/2TB HD space

    Wide screen monitor

    Gaming Keyboard & mouse

    Gaming Speakers

Can anyone please point me to the right components for Win 8 professional within my budget?

This is my first do-it-yourself P.C. and heard that Newegg is the place to go in the U.S. for making your own rig.

Thank you kindly & ever so much,

but haswell and new cards from AMD/Nvidia are coming soonish so i'd wait.

What you can decide upon is what screen size do you want to use? Do you also want a 3d 120hz screen as oppose to a 60hz ips screen?

Also you can start deciding on your case.

I'm a single screen single fast gpu myself...I have been tempted by a 3d screen as my mate says some games are amazing.

However I do believe 3d tanks your fps quite a bit. (something i am looking into).

Where you buy from isn't a big isue, whoever sells the same thing cheapest is where you want to buy that item. Rarely do I suggest buying all your parts from the same place as you are losing out on savings that could make your computer more powerful.

well two things about the above build is take off one of the 1tb hdds and getting a 24inch or 23inch screen.

also i dont understand why "overclocking wont be necessary", always go for the k version of a cpu if the price isnt 2 much different.

and dont get a gpu for now.

and i'd not spend that much on a keyboard. usually I spend around £10 on mine

and yes 8gb ram is enough.

am sure it's great but for me bigger screen>things like mouse/keyboard. i agree though decent speakers is a must...so most of what you posted is fine

p.s things like mouse etc are bits you can add in later. (or get as an xmas present).

Use NCIX.com's build price of $50 (after checking to make sure they'd build and ship to the States, they do for Canada for sure, but not 100% sure about if they do for the States) as a reference for whatever shop you go to, if you go down that route.
